Ok, something for me to work on :)  I must admit this is the first time this question has come up - or rather, it's the first time I've been asked - so might be best to implement as there may have been others who weren't sure and simply didn't do it or ask.

I'd say, "Do both."  Some people love copying snippets of HTML, correctly formatted, while others like to handle all customization of their email signatures and having the PNG file gives them that option.

And since you say you invented the URLs you used, I say get something real in place in that regard, too.
