question about groups.io subscription

JinYoun

Hello, I just had a question about the email delivery options on groups.io.
Before, there used to be an option to receive only the first message posted and choose to whether follow that topic or not and no matter where I go, I cannot find this option... Did this option disappear?
Thanks

Re: Torrent Client and torrent website recommendations

I wonder if you could find Fine Reader 11 on one of the blind buy and sell lists.  Or perhaps there are other versions that you could find that would meet your needs well.

But it may be that even though the current version isn’t properly accessible. it still can be made to work adequately with this or that work around.  I won’t go into details here, but I had an old version of Fine Reader, bundled with one of my scanners that I could use with a work around or two.

Subject: [chat] Torrent Client and torrent website recommendations

Hello Everyone,
As the subject line states, I want to find out which torrent clients are accessible using NVDA, and also which torrent sites you would recommend for downloading software. I've  never used a torrent site because I've never needed one before and my understanding is that software downloaded can contain malware, at least from some torrent sites.

I had to replace the boot drive on the computer attached to my document scanner. Installed on that system was Finereader 11. When I attempted to reinstall Finereader from the CD I discovered that the Cd is defective. After much effort to contact support, I learned that I can't get another disc for Finereader 11, nor is it downloadable from Finereader. Support also stated that even if I found a downloadable copy it would not work with my license keys.

They see it as a minor issue easily solvable by simply purchasing the current version 15, but there are two problems with this. I don't want to purchase a new version, and as I think I read here or on the NVDA group, Finereader version 15 is not accessible. Version 11 is completely accessible and has all the features I need.

If you use a torrent client that you have found usable with NVDA and could advise me as to which torrent sites you have found to be acceptable, that would be very appreciated.
TIA
Dennis

Sincere Apology

Nimer Jaber

Hello everyone,

Some of you may have received multiple messages from me in my attempt to correct a link to my stream re Android apps. I am very sorry for this, and will do my best to prevent a repeat.

What happened: I wanted to add on to the initial video, as I did not have Android subsystem working. I needed to recreate the video, which necessitated a new link. As I was sending out the email with the updated link, I sent it twice inadvertently, as I did not realize the first went through.

Steps to mitigate this in future: I will be more diligent in checking to see whether announcements were sent out, and will do what I can to avoid duplicates. I will avoid sending out updates to links as well, and hope that you may consider subscribing to be alerted to any new content, to avoid spamming various groups.

Again, please accept my apology for the duplicated messages. If you have any comments or questions, please send those privately to nimerjaber1@...

Thanks.

Hello, and thank you for watching this video! You being here is truly appreciated by Kirt and me.

Yesterday, when I attempted to demonstrate Android apps, I realized that I am unable to install the Android apps using the dev insider builds of Windows, or at least, not the official way provided by Microsoft. While I did test out the process, I did so on another machine which is running beta, however that machine has sensitive information on it, and I am not able to stream using that machine in the event that data leaks. Most streams are done live, as I believe it is important that you see the process of how I do something, as well as any struggles. I don't believe in much editing here.

So, I am back today with an update. I received some information from Timothy from the winaccess group on groups.io providing steps for a manual install of the Android subsystem. I have done this, but will not provide this info here, as I feel that users should generally wait for the official process provided by Microsoft. Nonetheless, I did want to demo Android support in Windows, and to provide some additional links with info which may be useful to you, should you have the beta installed, and wish to play. Please note that this support is still in preview.

Re: looking for an accessible program to transfer mp3 files from my windows pc to an IPhone 11-pro

Hi,
have you tried iCloudDrive? In addition with the app VoiceDreamReader you only need to copy the files to the subfolder \reader\loader of the iCloud folder. Any files you copy to this folder get uploaded to the VDR app. And of course could be played within the app.
And of course any of the cloud services like Dropbox, OneDrive etc. would work fine.
The app files Pro offers a feature to let you upload files by a netdrive connection to your PC.

I have mentioned before that this is primarily because the drive letter designation is subject to change for external drives (be they actual disk drives, jump drives, SD Cards, etc.) depending on the order in which they are plugged in and removed.

If you want exceptions to stick for external drives, you must assign them a drive letter in disk manager that is well beyond any of the letter designations that Windows might automatically assign when various drives are plugged in and pulled as part of "a normal day."

That's why my permanent backup drives have been given drive letters like X: and W: before the very first things are ever placed on them.  Every time they are attached to the machine on which those drive letters were assigned they are used again, and the drives are never assigned letters like F: or G:, which often change depending on who got plugged in first.

A valid question. Yes, I’m running MalwareBytes Premium. I should, at the very least, disable its Web protection temporarily to see if the issue goes away. Disabling the program completely on a temporary basis is definitely an option, as well. Many thanks for the suggestion.

You don’t say what you have the browsers do when you open it.  How many home pages or tabs with displayed pages do you have the browsers open?  Do you have the browsers do anything else that might take time and power?  Disconnect from the Internet and open a browser.  See if what happens is different.  And, to save the inconvenience of a slow opening, if you can’t solve the problem, you can keep the bbrowser you usually use opened.  I keep my e-mail program opened because I don’t want to wait for it to open.

Using Windows 10 21H1. Dell Latitude E-7270 laptop.

I’m going to say up front that this is likely a very minor issue and one that I can live with.

Most of the time my laptop is very quiet with the fan rarely powering on. However, whenever I first open my browser, any Web browser, the fan powers up for around 30 seconds and is then quiet. It is not loud and seems to not be working very hard. I assumed that it could be an addon checking for and downloading updates so I disabled my addons but this seems to not make a difference. It seems to be happening with any Chromium browser that I open although my primary one is Brave. My laptop has 32 GB of RAM and so this isn’t something I would expect. Is this at all normal and are there troubleshooting steps I could pursue to stop this from happening assuming this is even worth pursuing.

Having used NVDA extensively for quite some time, I decided to write a review article on NVDA based on my personal experience for a publishing club of my university, and as of this writing, the club has published the article.
It's available here.
I do still have the original Microsoft Word version that I've written, along with the PDF version, so if anyone wants those I can provide them.
Note: My review is entirely based on my personal experience as an NVDA user, so there might be some points or topics that I did not cover in my article.
I decided to write my review article also to raise awareness of NVDA, to both sighted and blind people who might come across this article, and especially to other blind people who may not have heard much about NVDA.
