Indeed. I tend to only delete it using ccleaner free version as this can be set to not delete very recent files.

It also forces you to at least be reminded what files you are actually deleting, which can be files in other parts of the computer that you might wish to keep too, like an error log or certain internet files. I will use a permanent delete if I know the folder is way too big and I know I don't need it anymore actually. This happens to me a lot as the files I deal with and the folders I deal with are sometimes 50 or so gb in size. This is rare and I normally need everything, however I do use the permanent delete with triple carefulness on my part.

David the short answer is: press space to select, not control.
Then press delete to regularly delete, or shift+delete to delete without recycle bin. I strongly second Gene's suggestion. Until you are absolutely confident in deleting exactly and only what you want, consider deleting the normal way (without shift), and letting things go to your recycle bin. Yes you will have to empty your recycle bin eventually (which we can explain), but it's much harder to make a bad mistake that way. That's what it's there for; let it be your safety net as intended. No, it is shift del, as in the del in the 6 pack. Don't get confused with back space as that is not what they mean at all.

Also, since you will be practicing, I would suggest not using shift
delete while you are first working with selecting and deleting
files. Just use delete by itself so files will go to the recycle
bin. You need to practice and know that you aren't mistakenly
deleting too many files.

Selecting something is completely separate from deleting it. If you want to delete items that are in consecutive order, hold shift and down arrow through the items you want to select. If you go too far, keep holding shift and up arrow to the last item you want to be selected. After you have selected the files you want to delete, since you are already holding shift, press delete, thus executing the completely delete command, shift delete, not control shift delete. If you were to release shift, then hold it and press delete. Control and moving doesn't select or unselect anything. If you want to select files that are not right next to each other, press and hold control. When you get to a file you want to select, press space. Continue to hold control and move and press space on the next file you want to select. If you are on a file that is selected and you want to unselect it, hold control and press space. Space toggles selection of the item you are on on or off. If you have moved in a list of files and folders using just the arrow keys, something will be selected. Let's say you have moved but you don't what the file you are on to be selected but you want the file below it to be selected, then some files, not in consecutive order to be selected. The file you are on is selected because you moved to it and you weren't holding control. Press and hold control. Press space on the file you are on to unselect it. Then continue to hold control and down arrow, pressing space on the files you want to select. When you have selected what you want, release control and don't move in the list in any way. To completely delete the selected files, use shift delete. However, I rreally don't like discussing things with people using digest becauwse they respond a day later. Howw can you have a reasonable discussion of a problem if someone answers, then the digest recipient has qquestions or comments, which he makes a day later, someone answers, then waits a day again to get a response.
