Why does the pointing stick on my HP laptop freeze up sometimes
Khalid Anwar
On some HP laptops, there is a little nub between the G H and B keys which is called the pointing stick.
It behaves a bit like a mouse, and I actually find it very useful to open things like mouseovers, where you have to hover the cursor over a control to open up a menu or dialogue box.
However, occasionally this pointing stick freezes up which can be quite annoying, I don’t know if it’s a hardware issue or software because usually when I come back to thcomputer after while it will be resolved but I’m just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this. |

Yes it used to afflict Dell computers as well. MY guess it is either hardware or a driver issue.

I don't tend to use such things as they are too fiddly these days. Another annoyance was that you could turn them off and at some point they would come back on. It was only by uninstalling the actual driver that you could stop that. Brian -- bglists@... Not so sure some of them share the same driver with those little touch pads as well, and I nearly always have to turn them off, but its been a while since I had an afflicted Dell. Might have been an update that turned them back on though. Very strange.
