food prices

So my wife and I purchase food for our local food bank every month. Before all this high inflation we could purchase 18 cases of food for $100. This monnth it has finally happened that that same $100 buys exactly half as much. Have been looking on line for better prices on bulk food but haven't found any better prices.

Don,

You might just consider donating the cash.  Food banks have all sorts of agreements with various entities where the dollars they actually have will go much further than they do for private individuals buying foodstuffs to contribute.

It is amazing just how much certain food prices have increased, while a few select ones have remained virtually flat.  It doesn't surprise me, really, given fuel prices, supply chain issues, increased demand for decreased supply of all the bits and pieces that go into producing food from farming to processing.

I live in an area that's got a lot of agriculture, dairy farms, and poultry production.  And the local news has featured stories throughout the last several years where farmers are interviewed and give figures not unlike what you've given for the things they need from seed to fertilizer to spare parts, etc., etc., etc.

I doubt that you will find any better prices.  Just look around you.  Don't you see how everything is going up including the fuel to transport the items to you.  Good luck.
