Youtube Old Layout
farhan israk
Hello everyone, Youtube has changed the interface. They have introduced separate tabs for video, shorts and live. However, I do not like this interface. I want to experience the old layout where we could access all the videos including videos, shorts and live all together in one page. How can I get this interface? |

Gene
I doubt you can and even if you can now, based on this article, I
wouldn't be at all surprised if Youtube makes reversion impossible,
as it did with another change in 2021.

Yeah, I actaully think the new layout is much better. Although I’m still sore at youtube for not allowing us to see dislikes, they have been making other psotive changes lately, like the introduction of handles, which make a lot of sense and which I have to applaud them for. Of course, I’m still expecting my youtube viewing to drop off rastically in January 2023 when uBlock Origin stops working properly on most chromium browsers. There might be a temporary/placeholder url which will let you lose the old layout, but if there is, I certainly don’t know about it.

You don't need to worry about it except for the inconvenience of
switching to the Brave browser if you want to use a Chrome-based
browser. Brave will continue to block ads.

https://community.brave.com/t/google-will-soon-kill-ad-blockers-with-manifest-v3-how-will-this-interact-with-brave/434461 Also, we'll see how long Chrome keeps stopping ad blockers from working. How much market share will they lose? And, of course, there is Firefox, which U Block Origin (spelling) has a version of the add-on for. Gene On 11/6/2022 1:05 PM, JM Casey wrote:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/09/chromes-new-ad-blocker-limiting-extension-platform-will-launch-in-2023/ This change evidently only affects Google Chrome. It will be interesting to see what Edge does. That isn't discussed in this article. Its no coincidence that Google Chrome is trying to significantly reduce the effectiveness of ad blockers. We'll see how much market share Google Chrome looses. They may be making a mistake they may regret. If they lose market share, that share probably won't return after those who leave find other browsers they like as much even if Google stops what it is doing. Gene On 11/6/2022 5:47 PM, Gene wrote:

Yes it is hard for a company who relies on adds to support ad blockers. I do see their point, but most of our points also are that the advertising space is now so crowded that if all adds were aloud, then nobody would use the Internet. I was on a local social media site called Next door yesterday, and their script took ages to load and run on any browser, having just a cursory look at it, it first goes to cloudflare then to a myriad number of advertising ip address harvesters before it allows the page to move on. I do feel that the space is now so crowded that much like spam, drastic measures need to be employed to keep the internet usable.

We don't know if that is your machine or a general problem. I've seen Next Door discussed by different people on different lists and I don't recall hearing such a complaint. Scripts do make a lot of sites take longer to load but my impression is that your description is not at all typical.

We will see. From what i have read and heard in a couple of videos, it seems likely to me taht other Chromium-based browsers will also stop support for Manifest 3, which means they will circumvent ad blockers in teh samd way that Chrome will. As for Brave, I don’t know. I’ve thought about starting to use it and I still may. Something about that model they have with “eventually” instigating a very specific set of targeted ads seems a little suspicious to me, but I haven’t yet decided if I care enough. After all, i do still use chrome, google’s money-making baby. My internet experience would certainly be a lot less pleasant if I didn’t use an ad blocker. Yes, i also use firefox, but I find it to run pretty slow on my system, and youtube even “stutters” and lags in a way that it doesn’t with chrome. So again we’ll see waht happens next year, I suppose.

As far as when Chrome users will have the new system implemented, I'm not sure but I saw, perhaps in the same discussion I linked to, it stated that the change will start to be used in beta or I think even earlier releases starting next year, if I recall correctly. So it sounds as though users of production releases won't have this change until later in the year. I'm not sure about that, but that's what it sounds like. Gene On 11/7/2022 7:25 AM, JM Casey wrote:

Well its not a slow machine. It could of course just be that the network delays etc are mounting up as things get pinged during its running. Sometimes its fine, other times not, Edge seems to be the fastest browser, but sometimes dumps you in an odd place in a page. The site is pretty weird though, lack of headers and some addresses attempt to launch IE for some odd reason.

Yes indeed, but nobody is facing up to the main issue. If new users are coming along to use the web, it is hardly very useful to make it completely rammed with adverts. People will go away and not use the web at all.

Yeah, ask the companies that make eftpos terminals why they decide to not only have the accounts entry level touch but make everything else touch forcing users like myself to either use wave or blurt out their pin to their friends and no one knows about including the owners how to make things work.

I have never understood why web advertising is not handled exactly like newspaper advertising was: You pay for placement, not for eyes on. If it was in "the wrong section" of the paper for a given reader, it was never seen. Somehow, the metric on the web is not only placement, but is the ad so placed actually displayed. Well, you have no inherent right to display to me anything I don't care to have displayed. If the day comes where web advertising cannot be blocked, my use of the web on commercial sites of all sorts will plummet. If these were much like print advertising, fairly unobtrusive and not blinking, scrolling, flashing, playing sound/music, and the like I could tolerate them, but they're not.
