There is your problem. Line levels need more of an input to work. On most sound devices there is either a switch in software, or ann automatic detection. This will turn line into mic when you plug it in.

A bit more detail would be needed here. Some cards use USB inputs for Microphones and speakers, others one or the tether. For example a Creative labs USB device I have, only gives outputs, and leaves the input auto detect to do its stuff, but if you plug in a usb microphone it reverts the internal sound to line. No illogical but often Windows and drivers built by different companies cause unexpected results, and somehow you need to make sure your card is the default and see if it works as you like. Some external sound devices assume you are using line for everything and a manual mixer. Brian -- bglists@...
