remove blank lines from word document

Anyone know a simple way to take all the blank lines out of a word document? The document is 1000 pages long.

I often find odd lines left behind. this seems to be due to the old invisible tab and space.

Well maybe, but just trying Word XP, which I guess is 2002 on an older machine did seem to be faster and easier, but the caveat here is that this is also an older version of nvda before Word had the new API it has these days.
