I hope the traffic does come on here LOL! NVDA works really well in Google Docs in Chrome. Much better than JAWS. I tried NVDA in the development version of the Chromium based Edge, which you can download and install, and it works just as well in this up coming Edge as it does in Chrome! I also am using NVDA in Open Office, and it is mostly accessible. I have the latest alpha version. The alpha versions, already are into the code of NVDA 2019.2 I like how it now saves up to thirteen searches that you do with NVDA. I really like how NVDA works so well in the iTunes program. Also, I use many Windows apps, especially the email, calendar, and people apps. I have a tutorial on how to use all three of those apps together for a full email client experience. The email app for Windows 10 works so well for me. It works much better for me than Thunderbird with NVDA. NVDA has come such a long ways, since I tried out the first version that only worked on a flash drive, and this was in 2006. It did not do as much as Narrator does in Windows 10 1809 and 1903. I hope we can chat on here about how far NVDA has come, and how to keep it getting better and better in the future. I don’t see why NVDA, with a few more add-ons, couldn’t be used in the work place as much as JAWS. If we all could learn how to write our own add-ons for our particular situation at work, or anywhere, NVDA would be more powerful than JAWS. Have a great one, guys!

No, you're not the only one here.
I have been trying my best to delicately telegraph on the main group that "tighter control" will be coming, and soon. New posts from new members will be examined as to whether they're really main group versus chat group, and if the message is "misdirected" they'll be told so and how to direct it to "the other side." There will come a cut off date where, if a member does not ask the questions regarding where something fits in the NVDA group hierarchy before posting, those messages will be locked, if necessary, with a statement that the topic should be started on "the other side" depending on what side was chosen inappropriately. I full well expect pushback and some members choosing to withdraw, as is their prerogative. That still won't change the intentions of myself and the group owner in terms of getting a bit more order. I am really mystified that the Chat Subgroup is not seen as a big opportunity. The range of topics permitted here is virtually without limit, which allows the members of the NVDA group who so desire to join and engage in a much wider variety of exchanges than the main group will allow after refocusing on its core mission. And since only members of any given main group are eligible to join subgroups you generally know most of your "audience" in a subgroup. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 I cannot and will not cut my conscience to fit this year’s fashions . . . ~ Lillian Hellman, Letter to House Un-American Activities Committee, 5/19/1952 |

I think the other Brian's point though is that we all go for the main group first and that is probably because we see very little here, if you get my light hearted drift on this one.

You may be mystified, but I'm not as I've said elsewhere, having moderated way back before the web the old you can lead a horse to water but not force them to drink is still applicable which is why in most cases I tolerate the odd dodgy thread and just pass by. Which is why it is VERY important in my view that subjects like please help me or similar are far worse than misposted threads.

Also of course subject drift but then we all are likely to do that. I think tact is one of the biggest attribute in moderation but there are some people who do not see any argument as valid. Just the way we are all made. Anyway shut up Brian... OK I will, for now. Brian bglists@... Sent via blueyonder. We have had feedback running about 50/50 applauding or decrying the change, with a very slight tilt toward applauding. There are lots of those who I'd call "purists" who really want the NVDA main group to focus on NVDA, and that was its original intent. It's just been allowed to drift, a lot, and I'm not talking about drift within a topic (it happens all the time - that's how conversations are) but with allowing virtually any topic, NVDA related or not. I am sure that there will be an announcement when the decision is made regarding a date when "topic venue enforcement" will become hard and fast. It's always preferable to telegraph intent to the membership at large, and allow those who will adopt voluntarily to do so. Thusfar, as this topic shows, voluntary adoption has been limited. Sometimes it is limited, sometimes it isn't. We couldn't know until the new rules and guidelines (and guidelines can't really be enforced, only suggested) were put out there for viewing and digestion. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 I cannot and will not cut my conscience to fit this year’s fashions . . . ~ Lillian Hellman, Letter to House Un-American Activities Committee, 5/19/1952 |
