Help downloading a Google Drive folder

soloman s

Hello all,
I would like to download a folder from Google Drive. What will be the
best way to accomplish the task? Is there a way to download just as
we do with Dropbox by removing =0 with =1?
Please help me.

Are you trying to download a folder using a Google Account you own, or one from a folder URL that someone else supplied to you?

If it's the former, it's easiest to do if you've installed Google Drive for Windows and use that rather than going through the web interface for Google Drive, at least if you're dealing with folders.  Files can be easily downloaded if you have the Google Drive URL for the file and put the file ID from that URL in the appropriate spot in this URL template: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=FILE-ID

Let me hasten to add that I *do* like cologne.  I just much prefer it as a subtle hint instead of an aromachete.

Do not worry. Both a personal folder and someone shared with you folder are easy to download from the web interface. First, either allow first party cookies or add exclusion to third party cookies blocked list.
Now, press application on folder. Press down the arrow until you find the download. Press enter. Wait for a while to allow google drive to compress your file and download it. Once it finishes compressing the folder, you will get the download option as usual like downloading a regular file. Hope it helps.

I actually took the google drive app off of my system as I don’t mind the website, it feels quite good to use. But that’s just me, I force myself to try and use web apps and websites if possible as that’s the way things are going.

You will also maybe get the fact it could not scan for viruses. Don’t worry, just click the download button anyway, then wait.

Of course dropbox also helps this by ziping up the folder before you download it. Does Google do this. Last time I tried to use Google drive it seemed so slow.

I will not use Googles on line interfaces. They seem to be totally irrational to me. I much prefer integration with Explorer for most things on the clouds. Dropbox is by far the easieeist on both on and off the web compared to Google in my experience. Maybe one has to have a google brain to like that.

Google drive web interface is actually easy to use, you right click items to do what you need to do etc, I over love it over the dropbox interface as it just works. Dropbox will zip folders, except the folder size has a limit of I think 20 or so gigs. Not sure about GDrive as ihave not tried to hand someone ea 20 gig zip file. I know mac os will open 20 gig zip files with ease, did that once with a friend.

Just a note that this is only for folders or files above a certain size, and I can't recall what the size is.  I have several huge ZIP files on Google Drive that people need to download on a semi-regular basis.  I warn them that they will get this message and also tell them that the contents of that ZIP file were scanned hundreds to possibly thousands of times on my local machine before they were ever zipped up an uploaded to Google Drive.

One of the reasons I zip things up, even if it's a single folder, is because Google Drive lets you create a direct download link for files that third parties can use if sharing is turned on.  I've never gotten that to work equivalently for a folder on Google Drive for third party download.

I'd extend that to all of Google's web app equivalents of whatever platform the native app is on.  I use Google's stuff on Windows, via web app, and via Android App, and know many who use the iOS ports of the apps.

They've also shown a dedication to accessibility, too.  Like anything else, you have to learn how to use them.

Actually someone sighted who happens to be a mentor I have  can get the folder link working, it just works. I wonder if it is a step, you and I are both missing as my mentor shared our google drive for our class recordings with us.

I have no doubt that it can work, but whatever voodoo one must do to make a folder link download for a third party is something I've never successfully figured out, and believe me I've tried.  It's just not obvious.

Since you have a source who knows how, ask and post the instructions.  We can't be the only two who are stumped on this one.

I will if I get hold of her again. That might be a while. I have not spoken to her in just under a year. I need to fix that.

Happy Wednesday.
