how to convert excel files to another format?

Betsy Grenevitch

this is something I kept forgetting to ask ab out but now that I need one converted I hope someone can help. It says it is a read-only file so I do not know if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

Betsy,

Do you have a specific file format in mind?  You can do a Save As then choose PDF as one easy way to get a PDF file from an Excel spreadsheet.

Let me hasten to add that I *do* like cologne.  I just much prefer it as a subtle hint instead of an aromachete.

Brian, I will try that. That format may work. Thanks.

Brian, I tried alt plus F and do not see a save as command. Is there another way to save as? Sorry, I know so little about converting files like this--actually nothing.

Betsy,

Save As is a part of the File Backstage view just as Save is.

ALT + F, S - Save
ALT + F, A - Save As

After invoking Save As you generally need to then hit O (Browse) if you want to save the file you're about to create in a location where you can find it.  Then in the Save As dialog, you must be certain you navigate to the Save as type dropdown and choose the actual file type you are trying to save it as (convert it to).  That's PDF in this case.

Thank you. I need to write these steps down as I am not quite sure how I got to it after following the first two steps but have it in a .txt format which also works.

Betsy

I am wondering why you want to do this? If you aren't even sure what format you need to save this into, I can't help but think you may be trying to change the format for reasons other than actually needing it in another format.

Thus my question: why? What do you want to do with this file once its in another format, that you can't do with it now?

Pretty much anywhere else in Office/M365, too.  I constantly forget about F12 for invoking Save As, and it's a very useful and fast way to do so.  Thanks for the reminder.

It is much easier for me to read on a notetaker when it is in .txt or pdf. It did not matter to me whicih format I changed it in just so it was not in the excel format. For some reason, I could not even get this one to open in its original format on the Sense.

This makes abundant sense to me.  Excel spreadsheets in native format are not the most readable things even if you can see them.  I frequently save certain spreadsheets (including one about my business finances) out as PDF when I need to review them as I find that easier to deal with in "read only mode."
