ram information concerning my computer

I was just looking at RAM information concerning my computer.  In the about dialog, it says 8.00 GB (7.90 GB usable).  Why is a small amount not usable?

I realized after asking my question that I could probably find the answer with an Internet search.  This discussion answers the question.

Some ram may be reserved for certain hardware.

Not only that but all computers needs Ram to store stuff that is not directly useable by other software. Often of course quite a lot is part of the Registry, depending on what is going on at the time. I'm assuming this is often why some updates need a system restart to completely purge anything that might be now out of date. Drive storage is used, but this can be slower, even in an ssd depending on the speed of the bus etc.
