sanitizing a laptop keyboard

Don H

So I have fought a good fight for the past three years and haven't gotten Covid. Well today my wife and I both tested positive for covid and a trip to the doc proved it. So the question now is how to sanatize a laptop keyboard. Just could see that some harsh chemicals wiping all the labels on the keys. Wo what should I use? I am thinking of a wrag dampened with peroxide.

Hi, Don,

I’m not sure what you can use to sanitize your keyboard. I’ll ask my sister what she uses.

Don, I'm so sorry that happened. I hope you & your wife feel better
very soon. A Chlorox disinfecting wipe or similar is just fine. Covid
can survive on hard surfaces for up to 3 days. A dose of hand
sanitizer or a good wash w/soap & water after each use will prevent
autoinfection.

Any sanitizing wipe will work just fine.  That being said, Covid is primarily spread via air, and the variants that are around now are far, far more infectious, and far less virulent, than in the early days of the pandemic.

My partner and I, both fully vaccinated, both had Covid earlier in the year prior to the latest vaccine, and I have no doubt that mutations are coming that get around all the current vaccines (just like flu and colds do).

I don't know if it matters for keyboards, and others may want to comment, but in general, alcohol shouldn't be used on plastic.

Give it a bottle of whiskey lol! I don’t with mine but then I am the only one who uses it but it probably would not be a bad thing to give it a clean now and again. This one how ever is brand new this week fresh out of the box so should be fine and 100 percent wireless!

Sounds like a waste of good whiskey to me. I guess if you did that &
then typed something bad you could say the keyboard was drunk. Most
everyone this day & age tries to dodge responsibility, may as well
join the party. Lol.

You could use a UVC wand.  You would just move it slowly over the keyboard while the light is on and it will sanitize anything.  They aren't terribly expensive either.

UV light was used on the handrails of the Underground here in London. Not quite unsure what sort or how you could apply it, but at least its unlikely to damage the keyboard.

To be honest the spread is often down to aerosols, not just touching things. We touch a lot of things as blind people all the time, I'd I've not had it either.

The ordinary alcohol that they give you as handwipes seems to be good enough really. I'm a bit of a fatalist with this, you can only do so much, after that its going to depend if you encounter a carrier who does not know they are infected, which is why I suggested UV light.

I’ve not heard of this, I’ve heard of the technology as that’s how I sanitized my ear plus things I ware when sanding wood. I locked them in this cabinet for an hour, and it did its thing.

I'd had it 3 times, and it was not fun all 3 times, even got a touch of long covid that took a few months to go away. Fun times.
