test

Brian's Mail list account

I cannot agree with you. I mentioned to Brian on here that in fact emails from lists often turn up out of order or with answers not there which appear some hours later making me look an idiot, well more of one than usual. Despite many taking this up with Virgin it still happens and they will not acknowledge a problem. I've also found that on my Iphone using the normal client we now find it won't bring in emails at all convinces me some ar blank when not and even refused to decode base 64, so there are still may issues with email whether it be gmail or not.
It is a real pain in the rear.
Sorry feel better now!

To be honest there shouldn't be any reason to send a test to anywhere unless you think there is an issue.

You can always send to yourself and get a message back.

Then send to a friend on the same network and if thats gmail thats not hard at all.

Finally you can send to another place if that doesn't work but a lot of things are cloud based.

A few years back that was more important, before the cloud and when you used dialup and or didn't have ssl.

We take a lot of that for granted including fast speeds but 5-10 years back it was different.

Hi,
You made it to the list.
Actually, to the two lists - if I'm not going wrong you also posted on Win 10.
I haven't answered there because I didn't want to clutter up the list.
As this is a "more relaxed" list I'm answering here and letting you know that your 2 test messages arrived :)

Cheers,

Why not switch to another company if this is a known chronic problem that obviously can't or won't be solved.  I'm not saying that those with this problem change all their e-mail, but why not change list mail to something like GMail which is free and reliable.  the only problem I have with GMail is that a very small number, perhaps two or three or four a month, e-mails from lists are classified as spam.  that is a very small number and a minor inconvenience.  I get about 250 messages on average per day and having perhaps four a month misclassified is a very small amount.

Mr. Gaff,

How many people are going to have to suggest changing ISPs/e-mail service providers if your own will not fix an obvious problem with unacceptable service?

I have grown tired about your endless complaints about an issue that, by now, it should be obvious is quite limited, seemingly to you.  We, the membership of the lists on which you participate, cannot fix it.  Your current ISP will not fix it.  Either live with it or change ISPs, but, for the love of heaven, stop whining about it!

I was commenting on another person missing the rest of the thread, sorry I let my annoyance through.
Sadly I'm too tied to the isp to change it.

Anyway, just ignore me...

What do you mean you are too tied to the ISP?  You may want to receive mail in general through your provider.  You can receive list mail through something else and not lose any of what you use your ISP for regarding e-mail otherwise.

And, if your lists are all or mostly Groups.io lists, as you very likely know, you can change the addresses of all your Groups.io lists in one operation on the web site if you have an activated account.

Gene is correct.  If you really don't want to drop your ISP, then switching your e-mail provider to something like Gmail or similar for the purposes of e-mailing lists and similar makes a great deal of sense.   And I can guarantee you that Gmail (and other major web-based e-mail service providers - all of whom support IMAP access via e-mail client to their servers) will not have the kind of delivery delay you seem to be experiencing routinely.

As a side note, and it's an important one, pick one access method, POP or IMAP, for any given account with any given e-mail service provider.  Mixing the two access methods, particularly with certain providers, can create a chaos all its own that using one or the other prevents.  My preference for IMAP, and the reasons for same, have been discussed at length and won't be repeated here.
