work from home jobs for the blind or visually impaired

Dan Thompson

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a resource to find work from home jobs for the blind or visually impaired such as online tech jobs, filling out forms, etc./?  Thanks in advance for any guidance.

David Goldfield

There may well be such resources. However, I would respectfully suggest that you not limit your searches to only Web sites which specifically cater to blind users. I would definitely recommend using sites such as Monster, CareerBuilder and Indeed as they do list remote opportunities. However, if you do find sites which address the needs of people with disabilities by all means use them. I’m just saying that widening your net, so to speak, is probably best.

No matter what you use, competition out there is *brutal*. I don’t mean to be discouraging, but I’ve been playing this game for a while now. Anything that limits your opportunities to a single type of work or a specific group of users is going to likely reduce rather than improve your chances. If there are dozens of people just “like you’ trying to get the same work, what is it that makes you stand out? This is the big problem I am having nowadays.

Well, do not limit yourself in only job specific for people with disability only. You can do various job in various industry regardless yours disability status.
You can search job on Linkedin, remote.co, working nomads, flex job, just remote and many more. If you read remote job and freelancing related blogs, you will get more idea.

Yeah, flex jobs are not. It costs I think a bit to do a job search. I’m with BIT now studying for my sales force cert and am about to hopefully get my apprentice ship soon.

All of that to avoid exploitation, but also be prepared to for example have some face to face days, nobody will employ a ghost, so to speak.
Also, increasingly home workers are spied upon by their employers, and also there is security to consider if handling personal data in a remote location.

I think there’s far too much negativity on this thread, the pandemic has created a radical change in the job market and jobs which never could’ve been considered work from home are now possible.
And in my experience, letting an employer know about how you use a screen reader really does put their mind at rest that you would be able to do the work, I have worked primarily in customer service which isn’t the most glamorous but it certainly pays the bills and while I’m based in the UK and my experience might be different to the majority here, I have found the company Sitel was quite helpful when I worked there.

I think I tried those folks, I got shut down when I said I was blind and showed what I could do. That was several years ago, but now that I’m aiming for my salesforce [spoken as sales force]  cert, a platform where blind people are actually working to make all of it accessible, I’m quite happy now.
