Re: code factory vocalizer/eloquence addon

I wanted to verify that one addon that won't function properly when modifying its manifest.ini file is the Ignore Blanks Indentation Reporting Addon. Modifying this addon's manifest.ini file will cause the up arrow and down arrow keys to be silent instead of speaking the line being moved to. The hotkey to speak the current line (insert+up arrow) also will not function. This just verifies my previous warning that modifying an addon's manifest.ini file should not be used as a magic solution to make incompatible addons compatible with this newest RC build.

You need to open your c:\users\username\appdata\roaming folder, substituting username for the name your machine has for you as a user. Perhaps the quickest way to open it is to open the Run dialog and type %appdata% Followed by the enter key. 2. Look for the NVDA folder and press enter to open it. 3. Look for the Addons folder and press enter to open it. 4. Look for the folder containing the addon you wish to modify. 5. Within each addon's folder is a file called manifest.ini. Open this file. 6. Toward the bottom of the file you should see a line of text that may say something like lastTestedNVDAVersion = 2022.3. I changed the version to 2023.1 and then save the file. 7. Restart NVDA. I really want to emphasize that this is not a magic solution for updating all incompatible addons. Developers such as Joseph Lee or Luke Davis, among other users more savvy than I am, are way more qualified than I am to explain why this is and I'll respect anyone who feels that this technique should not be used. Therefore, do so at your own risk. Treat this method as you would with doing something like modifying the registry in that you should be aware of what you're doing, know how to revert what you've done in case your change breaks something and keep backups of the files that are working. Please also note that I am not available to offer private assistance for any of this. Sure. I realize this isn't always recommended but I decided to try it and both of these sets of voices are working with the 2023.1 release candidate. |
