Hi

I checked my settings and all were correct.

When i setup windows i turned off quite a few of the privacy settings.

I just figured out what had done as all of my computes are the same.

To make it work go into the windows settings with the windows key + letter I

Locate the privacy setting then press the enter key.

then i went to the following setting and pressed the enter key on it Speech, inking, & typing

Then i turned on the following Turn on speech services and typing suggestions

I also checked my mic etc in the other section but knew it was ok.

Now when you do the windows key + letter H you will hear the noise then speak then there will be a noise when you finish.

I tried it in notepad etc and it worked.

Just did the same and put nvda to no speech then turned it back on to see what was read.

hope it helps for others to get it up and running.

First, are those having problems using a USB microphone or a microphone you plug into a standard jack?  If the microphone is USB, I don't think the suggestion in the message below would apply because as I understand the way USB audio devices work, a USB microphone will be the default device when it is plugged in.  As far as using a microphone that uses a standard jack is concerned, I have no idea if making the microphone the ddefault recording device would cause the feature to work.

Hi

It may well be that the microphone is not defined as your default recording device.  Try the following:

1 Press the windows key to open the Cortana search box and type in ‘sound card’ (without the quotes.

2. From the list of suggestions press enter on ‘Change sound card settings, control panel’

3. In the dialog that opens, press Control+tab to move to the Recording tab

4. Press down arrow to microphone in the list control

5. Tab down to properties and press enter

6. Tab to ‘Device  Usage Use this device’ and ensure it is enabled.

7 Tab to OK and press enter, then tab to OK again on the previous dialog box

Cheers

Yes you have to have a microphone if one is not built in. They are more common in new laptops. Dont know of any PC's that have them built in.

Hi, David,

I just got it but I can't get it to dictate. Do I have to have a microphone?

Wow, Rosemarie!

If you press:

Windows+H, you hear a sound, and you can start dictating. When you stop, you hear a different sound, and you can read what you dictated.

I am dictating this email right now.

I am just talking out loud, after I pressed that command.

Well, let us see how well this dictation did!

This is a great feature of 1709!

I can’t wait until you get it!

Oh wow! I haven't gotten the new creator update yet but that's great that NVDA and narrator work so well with it.

Hi all!

I got the Fall Creators 1709 of win10 yesterday in my updates.

It downloaded and installed without a hitch. It took 90 minutes to download, but it took two hours to install. It got stuck at 70 percent for an hour, but I just waited patiently, and it finished.

Wow, I am using NVDA version

Version: master-14532,58e1946e

And it is so snappy in Edge, that I can’t believe it. NVDA is working better in this 1709, than it ever has. I just want everyone to know that NVDA is so snappy as well in file explorer. It is much snappier when I arrow through ffiles and folders in different areas of file explorer. The Mail app is working great with NVDA.

Narrator, is very snappy with MS Mark. I used Narrator in Edge, and it works well.

When you get 1709, you will love how well NVDA works with it.
