Re: Using Thunderbird filters
Gene
If some are being filtered, then before either
doing something else or quitting, stop and look for an answer to this question
if you don't already know it.
Message rules allow you to look in the message body
for something to use. Most lists have a footer that has the same
information in every message. Does this list have a footer and if so, is
there something in the footer that is the same in every message? for
example if you see something that says to unsubscribe from this list, send a
message to and then an address, use the message body option to look for the item
given for unsubscribing, for example,
unsubscribe dash audio hyphen
googlegroups.com
I wrote the punctuation so you would hear it no
matter how you have your screen-reader set. I don't know the syntax google
groups uses so that's an example, not a proper representation.
Don't write it out.
Copy it to the clipboard from the message and paste
it into the place where you tell the message rule to look for something.
That will eliminate any possibility of typing errors. And have the message
rule look in the message body. If every message has that bit of text, all
messages will be filtered properly.

Some messages from the music list are being filtered and some are not. I don't know what else I can say. I've done everything I can think of but I will try one more thing before quitting.

I saw, in your last message, that you are using the to line. So that isn't the problem. But we still don't have a clear answer to this question:For the audio list, are some messages going into the correct folder and some not or are no audio messages going int the correct place? Your last answer wasn't clear. I couldn't tell if you were referring to more than one list. So please answer in reference to only this one list.If some messages are going into the correct folder and some not, then some people are using either the cc or bcc field to send mail to multiple lists. the list address isn't appearing in the to line. but in order to get a better idea if that might be the problem, we need a very clear answer about this one list.If that is the problem, there may or may not be a solution to the problem. it would require further discussion. We would have to see if there is something reliable appearing in every message from the list that the rule can be told to look for. Many people don't use the to line in message rules unless there is no alternative because of the cc and bcc problem.Gene----- Original Message -----I understand your point but at times, if something doesn't work and you go through what seems to be the likely and logical causes, you then start trying things that may not seem to be relevant but which may be. perhaps there is something about the NVDA list that causes the rule to work when the from field is used even though it would not seem that there should be. But at some point, you have to start trying things that seem illogical as long as they are not dangerous or destructive..Gene----- Original Message -----From: Antony StoneSent: Thursday, October 26, 2017 4:15 PMSubject: Re: [nvda] Using Thunderbird filtersSurely this would be the same for the address which IS working, though:

I'm assuming (happy to be corrected if I'm wrong...) that Rosemarie has
created the same type of rule for both lists, matching on the same field.
