This isn't about changing settings.  That's a useful way to get to different settings quickly, which is useful but it doesn't address the question which deals with notifications that appear in firefox and how you move to them and work with them.

to save all that searching, just go to the address bar and type in about:preferences#security, this will take you straight to the security page.
if you want to go to the general page, it is about:preferences#general and if you want to go to the applications page, about:preferences#applications.  I think you can understand where this is going, if you want to go anywhere on that page, you type about:# and then the name of the section.  once you have landed there, you can do what you have to do.
