Well Firefox has been added to the firestick, but I believe Amazon has agreed to sell chrome based devices now, so where is the problem. I'm suspicious that Amazons system may well hijack Googles data collection so their devices won't let google earn money. Its all awfully silly and counter productive for all parties. The only certain thing in the future is that broadband prices or subscriptions to paid services will go up as the people who own the internet need to be able to have an income to create more capacity and bandwidth and renew old stuff. One way or the other somebody has to pay. Brian

So if it spreads we will have a virtual ww3 on our hands everyone is chucking nukes about, no one knows why they are fighting anymore.

It really sucks for us especially and I am tempted to yell at somebody until they listen to us. We can't use Skype the way it is now. I thought Accessibility was supposed to be getting better!

Yes I mentioned this in another thread, but of course that would mean that much more effort would be required to write software and decide what front ends to support etc. To me, currently Skype and for that matter universal apps has lost the plot in that they are not universal at all as writers can make them all look completely different, when at least in classic windows one knew you had a menu bar toolbars etc, and not this apparent throw everything up in the air and where it drops is where it stays muddle we have now. It does.
I have switched all my users to skype universal to keep the software updated but to be honest skype classic is in the tablets section so unless ms decides that windows tablets need to update to universal to which they will probably do eventually then maybe.
At any rate even if skype does die, they will have to change the minimal version on server to have it not even work and they only just did that last year and that was for 7.2 and older, up to this point you could probably still work with 6 or 5 or 4 or even 3 maybe not 2 but even so, who knows.
This new skype 8 will last till the end of win 8x at any rate.
It would be good if ms let us blinks use our own windows desktops, shells and interfaces for their cores so we could use their stuff without their junk.

I'm not sure how one gets the old version. However there does seem to have been
a long history with Skype mucking it up on every update they do. I hardly ever use it these days personally, but for many years the tendency to hi jack the audio settings and not put them back afterwards seemed rather draconian to me.

Sent: Saturday, January 06, 2018 5:42 AM Subject: [nvda] New Skype Installation a Complete
Disaster!
I have used NVDA successfully with Skype for many years. Suddenly, tonight, on my Windows 7 laptop, when I entered Skype, a new version was forcibly installed, something
like
Version 8.1.2, and it presented me with an interface
that I
could not comprehend with NVDA. None of the shortcut keys that I previously used would work. I received a call
from a
friend right after this forced installation and could not answer it, because the usual alt-PageUp key combo for answering a call was useless, as were all other previous shortcut keys. What is the solution to this problem. I totally uninstalled Skype for now. Do we give up on Skype as NVDA
users, or install a different version or perhaps some other chat program?
