You can use the profile switcher extenchen for thunderbird to get the identies functionality like in outlok express.

Well, that was my argument for having an add-on for Jaws-like commands for NVDA.
But there seemed to be no interest in that either.

I think my issues with tbird are well known here.
1. it uses hard to remember shortcuts nothing like Outlook express
2. It has all accounts in a tree rather than able to be kept separate as 
with identities in Outlook Express. In my view Microsoft are not really 
making a like for like program with their windows 10 mail app, and if they 
really did  make one like OE I think many people would use it.

Since many people like a pop3/IMAP local mail client and since many of 
same really miss Outlook Express, many use Thunderbird. I can say 
categorically that for whatever reason, NVDA runs rings around JAWS in 
Thunderbird. This is my personal experience as to why I use exclusively 
NVDA and almost never use JAWS any more.
