Re: for Windows 7 users Re: [nvda] NVDA 2018.2 is now available!

Hello Rosemarie.  Yes I did!  It is time to celebrate.  lol  Sorry for the late reply but all went well and I thank you for the help you gave.

I do have one question so far though.  When in the inbox and am finished reading a message I push exit and then the delete button.  Before NVDA reads the name of the next poster it says INBOX WINDOWS  I don’t think it did that before and is slightly annoying.  Is this a permanent thing or is there a way to get rid of it?  If I just down arrow on the list in the inbox, it doesn’t seem to have the same words.

If it’s not one thing it is another, right? It was so kind of you to follow up with me on the update.  Thanks so much.

Rosemarie and Quentin,

Oh, thank you so much.  My version is 2018.1.  Just a while ago I got a  notice to update but don’t know what version that was as I told it to wait until later to notify me again.
OK, I checked the updates available and it is the point 2 one.  I guess I will be daring and press the enter button.

Thanks so much for the quick responses and now I am much more educated!

Hi, Marilyn,

I think you should be able to go to the "check for updates" and you'll find out if you canupdate your version of NVDA. If not, you'll have to do it through the nv access site which is nvaccess.org.

To find out what version of NVDA you're running, hit the insert key and N to go to the menu. Then arrow down to the help menu and open it with the right arrow. Arrow down to "about" and hit enter on it. You'll hear whart version you're running.

Hope this helps.

Rosemarie

Hi All,

I have a beginners question about NVDA.
Do I need to install the 2017 copy first or can I just go right into the 2018 one?  Also,  how do I find out what NVDA I am using right now?  Told you I was a novice!

That's what it look like, yes.  Which is why upgrading from NVDA 2017.4 or earlier on Windows 7 finds 2018.2, but upgrading from 2018.1 doesn't (from my limited trial on one computer).  We should be able to fix it but in the meantime, downloading the update manually should work.

Your welcome. I wonder if things broke when Windows 7 users didn't, and weren't supposed to get the automatic update notice from the 2018.1 minor update that was rolled out to WinX users? Just a thought.

Thanks Travis,

A couple of people have reported this, and we're looking into it.  In the meantime, yes downloading manually should work from https://www.nvaccess.org/download/

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Of those experiencing this, every report I've seen so far has been from Windows 7 users, is anyone experiencing this on Windows 8 or 10 please?

Regards

Quentin.

Just a heads up for Windows 7 users: it is necessary to go to the website to download the latest version of NVDA as searching for updates within NVDA itself still says that there are no updates available. As it is now 10 hours since Quentin's announcement, his second mention of it actually on the list, both at 12:15 AM, Pacific Standard time, I feel it safe to mention that the normal method for checking for updates within the NVDA program itself is flawed for now, perhaps to be fixed later on down the line. Thanks.
