Yes. Essentially you have two speed controls, NVDA's rate control, and
the rate control in Windows. Neither will go above 100 percent. But
let's say the rate control in Windows is set to fifty percent. If you
set NVDA to a hundred percent, it's only going to go as fast as the
Windows control's fifty percent. So if you increase the Windows control,
you increase NVDA's as well, in other words, NVDA can now speak at a
faster rate. Indeed, I'm pretty sure I have my Windows control set to
something like eighty percent and my NVDA control set to fifty or sixty.


This is just like the volume control. If your Windows volume gets turned
down, the NVDA volume will only be so loud, even if it's at a hundred
percent. If you turn up the volume for your sound card, NVDA can be
louder. But neither volume control goes above a hundred percent. Hope
that helps explain it all.

I know of no way to increase the speed higher than "rate of 100."

Yours is a common complaint.  I'd submit a suggestion that the top
rate be increased significantly via the Feedback Hub, then post the
link to same here for folks to be able to upvote it.

It amazes me how many screen reader users can understand a speech rate
that leaves most of the rest of the world scratching their heads
(including me)!  But I also get why that's an incredibly valuable
skill to develop.
