A quick aside, I have yet to see an instance where this choice is persistent.  You must enable it every time you wish to use it and if you log out and go to log in again the default is always "hide."

While it is conceivably possible that someone might inadvertently activate "show password" accidentally via "twitchy finger mouse click (or other activation)" that is a remote possibility.  It's designed as non-persistent so that it requires conscious decision making to activate on the part of the end user for each and every use.
