Hey,

PayPal takes care of the currency exchange. That makes donating or purchasing items very simple.

Because our bank account is in Australia, it only accepts Australian dollars.  So any donation or purchase from us will end up in Australian dollars.  Theoretically you could tell Paypal to donate say $20 USD and it should be able to then remove that from your account and deposit $28 AUD (or therabouts, according to Google) into our account.  The way the donation page on our site is setup is in Australian dollars, simply because having the one currency is both easier to setup and to read, it just means that it's up to the user to work out how much any given amount is in their local currency.

The issue I had was that my donation was in Australian dollars because I couldn't figure out how to get it to U. S. dollars.

Thanks Brian, it was likely a change PayPal made - they keep changing things and invariably it usually seems to make it less friendly to use.  If it does get too hard for users, we can look at another provider.  I must admit, PayPal is the main one I am familiar with, I'm not sure what the best other options out there are...  We have trialed adding "Stripe" to the shop for purchases like the training materials.  I haven't had any feedback either way from people on that option yet.

Quentin,

All I can tell you at this juncture is that the issue was almost certain to be the donate option that comes up when you are installing a new version of NVDA.  I had asked my friend if she had updated to NVDA 2018.3, to which she responded in the affirmative, but then the conversation turned to her having been unable to donate as she typically does when she updates.

This is someone who has been a screen reader user for decades, and an NVDA user for a long chunk of that (it's her screen reader of choice).  That's the reason I brought it up because if she was having difficulties I suspected it might not be a case of user error.  Perhaps it was a fluke, but I thought it should be mentioned.
