One thing I did do, was go to the thunderbird directory in program files and in the distribution\extentions and in the thunder bird folder \extentions I killed all the files in there.
Now I may have wrecked something but thunderbird no longer has a wait when starting up, there is no homescreen in fact it seems to load the inbox quite fast.
