You have the option to mute any topic that doesn't interest you via the link at the end of each and every individual message or message in digests. One can also put topic preview into place using Groups.io controls on messages for "following only" coupled with "first message also" filtering features.

One of the things I will be emphasizing as moderator is member responsibility for controlling their personal e-mail flow through the mechanisms Groups.io gives, which are very easy to set up.    You as a groups.io user have the capability in your own hands to exquisitely control the messages you do and do not see.  That's the responsibility of the individual user to employ.
