Style-based section numbers in MS Word

I’m trying to figure out what is going on. We use style-based numbering, meaning that different levels produce automatic numbering (like statutes with subsections, paragraphs, and sub paragraphs). NVDA reads these fine with the “Normal” configuration file, but when either the proofing configuration file or the heavy duty proofing configuration file I created are used, although the style level is properly read out, the actual paragraph numbers are not read. This occurs in MS Word 2013.
Any ideas?
