My wife had the solution that worked just fine. You go to NVDA in the system tray winkey+b

Press space on notification shevron

Arrow to NVDA and press the space bar

Then you can arrow to preferences, tools….

Sticky Keys that Jackie suggested, lets you press key combinations one key at a time.  So instead of pressing ALT+F4 together to close a window, you press alt, let it go, then press F4 and let it go.  When Sticky keys is enabled, the NVDA key becomes sticky, so you can press caps lock, let it go, then press n and the NVDA menu will open.
