AOM is a set of features still under development that allow JavaScript developers to have better access to the accessibility parameters of a widget on a web page then they would have with just ARIA. I believe web develoeprs need to toggle the AOM flag in order to use internal reviews of the accessible properties that Firefox will present to the iAccessible2 protocol that screen readers use to talk to screen readers. There was some concern about 6 months ago when Apple introduced Accessible  Events as an option to be disabled in Safari. These too are related to AOM.
