Hi Austin,

You can use NVDA's "Configuration profiles" to accomplish exactly what you
want here. To do this, open Word, then press NVDA+control+p to open
configuration profiles. Press alt+n to create a new profile. Ignore the
name field and press TAB to move to the "Use this profile for". The
default is "Manual activation". Press the right arrow to select "Current
application (Winword)" and press ENTER.

Now, any changes you make to NVDA's settings while in Word will be saved to
this Word profile, and any changes made elsewhere will be saved to the main
"normal" configuration. Note that at this point, if you alt+tab to say
Firefox, and then adjust the speech rate, that will be reflected in Word as
well. If however, you adjust the speech rate while in Word, changes you
make to the speech rate in other programs WILL NOT affect Word, as you have
already specified the speech rate to use in Word (Or to put it another way
- the "word" profile, will inherit all the settings from the normal profile
that you don't explicitly set while in the Word profile).
