Have you tried running the com registration fixing tool in NVDA tools?I hadn't but did so after reading your suggestion. It's possible that I'm noticing a slight amount of improvement since doing so and so I appreciate the advice.
After comparing NVDA's performance in Word as well as with JAWS 2020 I will say that JAWS also exhibits a slight slow-down in responsiveness on my machine, as well, compared to how it handles Wordpad. The slowdown is not as annoying as it is with NVDA but even with JAWS there is still a difference. Therefore, this is not really an NVDA issue but JAWS is just handling it a bit better. I may just have to accept that this may be a limitation of my current machine and may only be able to really solve for it by getting a computer with more high end or at least more modern specs.
