Re: NVDA on a Lenovo Miix 630 - no modifier key at all

Chris Mullins

When I got my HP laptop, I had exactly the same behaviour, the function keys defaulted to acting as media smart keys and I had to use the FN key to use them as normal function keys.  I found that there is a BIOS setting which reverses this behaviour, I.e switches it around so it defaults to normal function keys and requires FN to use them as media smart keys.  It may be worth researching your model to see if you have such a setting.  You may require sighted help to view the BIOS settings.

There are other models that are also lightweight and portable, for example the Ideapad series. I've been using the Ideapad 720S for over a year now, and I pretty much loved it. I do not really like the fact that I have to hold down fn key, in order to activate normal function keys like f1-f12, but I think I'm getting use to it, given that I have to deal with the same thing on my new desktop.
