Joseph,

I know that you know that your NVDA fans will miss you and the thoughtful respectful support that you have given all of us for a long time. You have solved so many of my NVDA issues with a single post.

However, and not knowing your graduate program field, I would agree with those who have recommended stepping back from your support work until you have a clear sense of what the next step in your education will demand.  Advice comes from someone who has done multiple trips back to the classroom. These have each provided me with the lesson that in every case, the new step starts off demanding more than is expected. You can always discover that you do have time and then you can choose to return to your NVDA fans, or just use the packets of time to get all you can from the new program.

Best of luck and have fun with the next step,

Rick and General, Guide Dog Extraordinaire

Hi,

I’m very close to finishing my undergraduate degree and am planning to apply to graduate school. Based on conversations with people, graduate education is more difficult and will take a lot of my time. Because I spend quite a lot of time working on NVDA and add-ons, I knew that I have to give it up if I’m to succeed in education. Such is life.

Cheers,

Joseph

Joseph,

Actually I didn't catchup with all the conversations since sometime hence asking, why are you stepping back from NVDA world and community?

I'm sorry if my question seems irrelevant.

Hi,

To expand on my statement about letting NVDA go: there is one more thing I need to do, and that is declare Add-on Updater end of life i.e. give NVDA itself the ability to check for add-on updates. It’s a project I’ve been thinking about and working on for the past seven years, and the pieces are slowly coming together. That doesn’t mean I’m leaving the community altogether – I can envision becoming more like Jamie – occasionally giving advice and coding suggestions.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

There are replacements such as Audio Themes. Also, the NVDA pull request associated with it (for NVDA issue 2559), while useful, wasn’t really ready. Besides, it has become clear to me that in order to prepare for the next stage in my life (graduate school), I need to let go of NVDA, and letting go of add-ons that are effectively end of life is just one stage of this process (I thought about this decision for a long time). I know that we have people who can take good care of this add-on in the future.

Cheers,

Joseph

I don't understand. What makes you say it's not useful anymore?
