8GB of RAM is adequate for the typical Windows 10 user. While I’ve
seen comments that performance is faster with 16GB, 8gb does not result in the
kind of slowness described. There are a lot of blind screen-reader users
with 8GB of RAM, using Windows 10.
It may be that the computer can run Windows 7 well, but that it doesn’t
have the power to run Windows 10 well.
What synthesizer are you using? One thing that might help is using a
different synthesizer. For example, buying Eloquence if you are using
speech that requires much more power, might make a significant difference.
You can try an Eloquence demo and see.
But if you are using something like E-Speak, trying a
Eloquence demo won’t help. E-Speak is already responsive in less powerful
machines.

there's a lot you don't tell us--specifically, how much ram this machine has, how much free hard drive space, how many processors, & their speed. There is a Windows 10 compatibility tester that MS has. Did you run this? If you have < 8gb of ram, then I suggest that Windows 10 is not a good choice, especially when running adaptive technology. I would also say that because this is an upgrade, there may be incompatible apps or drivers.
