Cisco, have you checked to see if the preview pane in File Explorer is enabled? Press alt-V to go to the View tab on the ribbon. Navigate by pressing the tab key until you move to the Preview Pane button and if it says that the button is pressed then press the space bar to disable it. Let us know if that makes a difference.

Jene, Thanks for your solution, it works wonderfully! Also, thanks for the titbit of info about the SSD not being responsible for giving me the info about the list I’m in.
Bryan, I’ll try to restore the defaults on trimming and such, it’s good to know it might affect the disk’s lifespan. Best regards. Francisco

I use Windows 7 and my problem isn’t quite the same but my solution may work. Without going into detail about my problem, there are conditions when responsiveness when moving through a list of folders and files is slow on my machine. One thing I do and you can try is to hold control as you move. If I do that, speed returns to normal.
Try the following: Hold control and move through the list. When you get to the thing you want to select, release control and up and down arrow to leave and return to the item. It is now selected and you can press enter on it or do whatever you want.

Hello everyone,
My name’s Francisco, I’m a highschool student who has been using NVDA since circa 2014. I use NVDA daily for an array of things, from homework, to entertainment and so on. Enough about me, here is the problem I am facing: Both in Windows 10 and 11, which I’m currently using, NvDA lags behind when navigating folders and files in File Explorer. Half a second to a second passes from when I press up or down arrow, to when NVDA announces the item under the cursor. As you can probably imagine, it can get quite annoying at times, particulary when I’m trying to be quick about opening a file. First letter navigation helps, but having a lot of files starting with the same letters doesn’t help as much, just to balance out things. My question is, has anyone experienced this kind of behavior when using NvDA? If so, how did you fix it? If you don’t use file explorer and use an alternative, what would you recommend?
