I saw on a list, I don't remember which one, that if you run the beta, the problem is solved.  But I see no point in the 64bit version.  What benefit is their in having a 64 bit text editor?  64 bit programs can handle large amounts of data more quickly and there are certain programs that benefit but a lot don't.  I've read that one kind of program that benefits is a data-base program.

Hi Group,

On another list, this question was asked. Apparently there is some sort of issue specifically with the 64 bit version of Notepad Plus plus and NVDA. Supposedly it is fixed for next full release.  However, I see no real advantage of the 64 bit over the 32 bit. I did n fact confirm the issue when for testing purposes, I did a complete uninstall of the 32 bit and installed the 64 bit version. To remedy this, I then uninstalled the 64 bit version and installed the older version 8.29 and then used what is apparently a combined version of the 8.33 installer, it detected the 32 bit version, installed a 32 bit version and the problem is solved for now.

if anyone can tell me the benefits of the 64 bit over the 32 bit version, I would be interested in the information.

George, can you be a bit more specific in what happens and what you do to make it happen?

Which version of NVDA are you using?

What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

What exactly happens once the problem occurs? Saying that NVDA crashes isn’t necessarily as specific as you might think.

Are you using any NVDA addons?

Does the problem occur when all addons are disabled?

Hi NVDA folks that use NotePad++

 

I discovered that Notepad++ 8.3.3 crashes  with NVDA. I use NPPcrypt, and had to have my son decrypt the files for me. What are people doing while this incompatibility gets fixed? I would discourage people going to version 8.3.x at this time. Can one just install 8.2.x over 8.3, or would this break plugins?

 

This also taught me a lesson about encrypting files and being careful not to depend on that software always working.
