I doubt a log is going to help in this case. In theory this should not have happened. Oh well, it’s fixed now, and I learned about safe mode and narrator. So positive things and all. Take care to everyone.

I wonder if the log has any useful information. Perhaps a Windows log would contain the information. It sounds as though NVDA is blocking UAC from receiving the yes or no command, which is certainly unexpected. And since NVDA is actually running at the time and blocking UAC, I suspect might leave no information in the NVDA log, I wonder where you would look.

When I want to run something as an administrator, I use the context menu. I haven't done this enough to be sure, but I think if you are on the program name, such as in the start menu search results, that if you open the context menu, you will find run as administrator. You might want to change the short cut if you always want the program to run as an administrator but I suspect that often, people don't want to do this. I use the context menu because I generally don't want a program to run as administrator except when I tell it to.
Does the bug occur then or only when you run the exe file itself as an administrator? If this is a bug regarding NVDA, I think it should be corrected but is it, or is this a problem that happens with other programs as well?

I must admit I rarely enough need to elevate a program's privileges that I think the subtlety of changing one vs the other might be lost on me, but I would have thought most people launch NVDA from a shortcut (desktop / start menu / taskbar - even using control+alt+n is generally set to one of these) - and therefore my automatic reaction would be to change the rights of the shortcut. We really don't recommend running NVDA (or anything unnecessary) with admin privileges and I expect that perhaps the way NVDA passes things to itself so if you have changed the shortcut and windows wants to ask if you are sure every time NVDA wants to do that, then this is what happens - I'm not sure we could even stop that - you've told Windows you want NVDA to run with elevated privileges - I don't think we can overrule that and de-elevate the program's privileges.... It's not something NVDA would be looking for in any case. On Wed, Jul 6, 2022 at 12:42 AM Sarah k Alawami <marrie12@...> wrote: You could not do this with this nasty bug. Looks like someone might need to put this on github as if some unsuspecting user might do this and be up until 11 PM like I was. Can you get to NVDA.Exe in Program Files X86 using fileExplorer and access the properties using alt+Enter? Even though it may not be regularly used it’s always useful to have the NVDA shortcut available. Cheers Chris Sent from Mail for Windows I can’t. It looks like my only option is going to have to be to boot into safe mode. I literally cannot access anything beyond that dialogue! Then check the shortcut that's running it.
