I'm discussing what the settings do.  If I reviewed the settings, just seeing the text such as open new messages in a new tab would not answer my question.  I would either have to try the different settings or look up what they do on the Internet.

This is all tied together, whether one uses new tab or new window to open messages.  Review the settings in the area I mentioned, as they're clustered pretty closely together.
