Re: Unable To Display Status Bar IN Latest Thunderbird Version 102.1.1

I don't use it much but it tells you things like the number of unread messages in the folder you are in and the total number of messages in a folder.  It also tells you if you are online or not.

You can get the information about the number of unread messages by moving to the tree view, at which time the number of unread messages in the folder is announced along with a little other information.
You can hear the total number of messages in a folder by being in the message list and moving to a message and letting the information read.  As in other standard lists, the last information will be information like 5 of 20, in other words where you are in the list and the number of items.  The status line gives you those pieces of information more quickly and efficiently but you can get them other ways.

What is the importance of a status bar in TB?

No.  The issue now and in perhaps more than one earlier version is that when you issue the read status line command, NVDA key end, it isn't read and the announcement no status line information found, or something very similar is spoken.

Hi, was saying I can disable it or enable it, I thought that was the issue in the earlier t-bird.

Are you saying the read status line command reads it and when does it read it, when it is checked or unchecked.  It shouldn't be shown if it is unchecked and it shouldn't be read.

This may be something NVDA will have to update.  The status bar is still read when using JAWS.  Whether Thunderbird or NVDA should correct the situation is something I'll leave to the two sets of developers.

Hi Group,

Has anyone upgraded Thunderbird to the latest version 102.1.1?  If so, can you read the status bar?  I cannot on my system: Windows 11, 64 bit with latest NVDA 2022.2.
