problem reading form

Gary Metzler <gmtravel@...>

Hi All,

I was filling out a form on a web site I had no problem filling out my personal information.  When it came to answering some questions I couldn’t read the questions.  There were some radio buttons but, I didn’t know what they pretain to.  Is there a work around for this?  I am using the latest nvda and windows.I am using ie 11.  Thanks for any help.Regards, Gary kn4ox

Re: FREE CONVERSION SOFTWARE

There are a few things.
1. adobe's own acrobat reader will read anything that is accessible excluding protected and image files or files that are not written in acrobat.
2. textpal, edsharp, pdf2txt from empowermentzone, textpal, and pdf2txt are just not developed anymore though no updates for ages.
Balabolka will read any file which is accessible.
I still go for codex using the calibre engine.
THat will work, it also removes drm.
Why is that good?
Well it means I can take my own purchiced books, then crack them for conversion to text so I can read them on my system of daisy player.
I mean, these are my books.

because they are out for jaws and that’s not fair. If any one can answer
this question I will be very happy.

Dear Folks,

This problem has been resolved.

For unrelated reasons I removed AVG virus software and tune-up, ran Malware Bytes, and uninstalled/reinstalled Office Pro Plus. Now NVDA correctly announces when a message is unread or has an attachment, which it previously did not do. I'm sorry I can't tell you which one of these moves resolved the problem.

Thanks for all your input!

Warmly,
Ralph

Thanks! In that case, I'll stop trying to get it to work and look forward to Office fixing this in due time. Or is this something our NV Access developers need to work on?

Listening back to some older techtalks from rnib the other day, one person on there had all sorts of issues withOffice 2016, including the one mentioned and it affected other screenreaders as well. In the end she had to go back to Office 2013 which resolved it.
I don't think anyone could pin the weird effects down. She was using windows 10 without the anniversary update.

This has nothing to do with audio devices. If you have speech, you have speech. Audio device configuration has nothing to do with what a screen-reader reads.
It has to do with whether it has the ability to produce speech.

For some reason, NVDA is not reading or not seeing certain graphics. I don't use Office and I don't know what others' experience is.

Thanks! I turned off the reading pane, but that made no difference. I’ll have to ask my tech about the audio devices, but I don’t see how their configuration could be causing this problem, since all other items are being read.

So far, I have not been able to resolve the problem related in my message
below. May I add two more questions? I am working with a new drive, new
installation of windows 10, new subscription to Office 2016 for business,
and new download of NVDA:

1. Can anyone tell me that they are not having the problem I encounter with
Outlook 2016?

2. Is it possible that this problem arises from something to do with how my
programs are installed, including the sound output devices? I doubt it,
since everything else seems normal, but I thought I should ask.

Dear Folks,

Before this conversation dies down, let me put my problem again. I have used
Outlook 2007 for a number of years and was satisfied with how NVDA worked
with it. Now I have Office 2016 for Business. My outlook opens the inbox in
a view that NVDA announces as “Table View.” It is simply the list of emails
that I am familiar with as the list of messages in the folder. When I
navigate this list the sender, Subject, Date and Time are announced in the
normal way, but not other fields (whether the message is unread or flagged
or has an attachment). Visually, the closed envelope, flag, and paper clip
are all present in their respective columns. Does anyone have the same
experience or did anyone find out how to solve it?

Warm regards,

Ralph

Re: Lite version of Outlook.com

At least for now if I need to send an email, I either do it on my iPhone or use Thunderbird. Checking emails, for me, is way faster on my iPhone...even though when I'm in front of my desktop, I prefer to just open the Mail app on my iPhone instead of opening Thunderbird/Outlook.com itself, even though I have Outlook.com as a pinned tab in Firefox.

I can confirm the difficulty of using the new outlook.com.  I have not been able to successfully read emails from my Hotmail account in quite some time. Tried using NVDA and another screen reader.

I saw the check box but it is disabled, below it there's a message saying that it isn't available for Outlook.com, which is strange because the lite version was able to be used when I used IE8 on my XP virtual machine.

This leaves me with 2 options. Either switch to Thunderbird, or try in any way I could to trick Outlook.com into thinking that I'm using IE8, I.E user agent spoofing in Firefox which worked as there's an add on for that, but it's global, which is not what I want as I want the spoofing to occur on Outlook.com only and not everywhere.

I did sent Microsoft a feedback regarding this, but so far they didn't seem to be doing anything about the accessibility issues with the new Outlook.com.

Hi group!

I've just tried the new version of screamer radio, which is: 0.9. I've
downloaded the portable one. My impression is, it's isn't quite
accessible with screen readers. I tried it with NvdA. Has anyone worked
with this program and can anyone says somethings more about the program
when possible step by step? On the instruction I've read that hotKeys
also are supporrted but probbably the screen readers don't read all from
the menus, so I couldn't find hotKeys. Thanks in advance.

Hi Heaven,

You could try the OCR NVDA addon: http://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/ocr.en.html  Of course, depending on where the inaccessible PDF files are coming from, the ideal option would be if the sender can learn how to create accessible PDF files to begin with.
