Re: Accessible calendaring system

Well, I don' t know about a stand-alone calendar, (though it'd be easy enough to write one if one can't be found). There is one built in to thunder bird that works pretty well. It's not a hundred percent, but it works well enough to do the job. I've heard the calendar in outlook works well, but I can't confirm this, as I've never used outlook. Hope this helps.

Hi folks,
Wondering if anyone can make any recommendations for an accessible events calendaring system that plays nicely with NVDA?
Thanks

Re: Track Changes in Word
Quentin Christensen
Hi Kelby, You are right, there isn't anything obvious indicating whether track changes are on or off. You can go to the Revision ribbon and check whether the track changes button is pressed or not. Changes themselves are treated as Annotations by NVDA, so they appear in the elements list etc. The only reference for this that I know of, aside from a brief mention in the User Guide, is the Microsoft Word with NVDA module here: http://www.nvaccess.org/shop/ which goes into more detail than I included above as well as several activities on the topic (in Chapter 11). Kind regards Quentin.

Track Changes in Word
kelby carlson
All,
Is there anything out there on how to use track changes in MS Word with NVDA? When I press ctrl-shift-e it doesn't tell me if track changes are even on or off. This caused a big problem with an assignment recently.

Does anyone know of an antivirus that works with Vista? Old I know but still using it for some tasks and AVG and Sophos seem not to work with it any longer. Thanks. Dan Beaver

Re: MS EXCEL AND FORMATTING

Hi Quentin
Thank you for your prompt reply and for attending to these issues.
I am glad that you and the developers are working on this. I shall advise my colleagues on this.
Kind regards
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of Quentin Christensen
Hi Heaven,
Thanks for raising these issues. I have actually recently started looking at Excel as I start to write our Excel training module, so now is a great time to bring up any Excel issues.
For the ones you've raised:
- If you are navigating around a sheet and press NVDA+F, it will announce some formatting for the current cell, particularly the formatting of the first character. It doesn't tell you if, for instance, there is a word in bold somewhere in the cell. Here is our GitHub issue on that: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6478 If you have or create a Github account, you can subscribe to be notified as the status of that issue changes.
- If you are editing a cell, because you start typing in it, or you press F2, then NVDA won't announce any formatting. This is a limitation in Excel and we're talking to Microsoft to hopefully get them to work with us on this. Here's our Github issue for that: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6479
With pressing ENTER not reading the cell that has been moved to, in my testing, I found that: - If you edit a cell (type something in it etc) and then press ENTER, the new cell location will be read. - If you do NOT edit a cell (i.e. you press tab to move across a row and then ENTER to move to a new row without actually editing the last cell at least), the new cell location is not read.
There is a Next build incorporating a fix, but it hasn't made it to Master yet. My suggestion for that one in the meantime, is to use the arrow keys to navigate if you are only reading and not editing - or download the latest Next build.
Here is the issue: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6500 Here is the snapshots page if you want to download a Next build. It looks like it was fixed in the last build on 26 October, so build version 13668,593c63b3 or any of the newer ones should have the fix: http://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/
Kind regards
Quentin.

I have probably mentioned this before, but I would just like to do so again since this is quite a big issue.
I would like to report that, although MS Word mentions formatting such as bold, italics and underline when Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I or ctrl+U are pressed respectively, MS Excel does not do this. When pressing the above-mentioned keys in MS Excel, NVDA stays silent and when one presses Insert+F NVDA either says "no formatting information" or mentiones everything else but what one wants to know.
Furthermore, when pressing Enter in Excel, NVDA speeks when it feels like it. Sometimes it mentions the cell address and sometimes not. It would help if it always speaks the cell address, since one can easily get lost otherwise.
We are using the newest Windows 10 and Office 2010 with NVDA 2016.3 at work. I am using the newest Master copy of NVDA and I still experience these issues.
Thank you for attending to this matter.
Kind regards

Changing the way symbols are spoken
Juan Hernandez
Hello All,
I have two questions.
1. How can I change the way semicoallens are spoken? When reading code in my programming softwares, NVDA speaks semi instead of semicoallen. This isn’t a huge deal, but I would like to change it. I found the place to change punction how it is spoken, and so when I am up/down arrowing through the lines of code, it works great, but when I left/right arrow over it it still speaks semi. Also when I press the semicoallen key, it says semi; how can I change this? Or can I even change it through the config interface? Or will I have to change it in the code? 2. How can I change the pitch of the capital letters? Best,
Juan

nvda sometimes does not track focus immidiately, what does this message mean. how do you change the idle time, thanks. here is message.
Brian's Mail list account Oct 25 #10068 Well I sometimes used to get it when scrolling up and down lists as well, it was improved a lot by making sure that the processor at idle actually used more of its valuable time, by which I mean I set idle to over 50 percent -- from mack<p><br></p>

Re: Outlook.com or Outlook Web Access
This becomes somewhat messy because of the "who gets to look at the keyboard shortcut" hierarchy and something may be stopping it. Take a look at the following articles: http://winsupersite.com/article/windows-live/outlookcom-tip-keyboard-shortcuts-143905 https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-use-outlook-com-e-mail-with-keyboard-shortcuts/ https://www.msoutlook.info/question/keyboard-shortcuts-for-outlookweb-owa-and-outlookcom The first and second articles note that you have to turn the keyboard shortcuts feature on, and I know this was true of Gmail's web interface as well. Turning them on may fix the issue entirely. Otherwise, I'd try is hitting NVDA Key+F2, which is the pass-through key which tells NVDA to ignore the keyboard shortcut you are about to type and to pass it through directly to the program you're running beneath NVDA. This gets messy for multi-stroke keyboard shortcuts, though. Something like ALT+T is a single keystroke, while ALT+T, followed by K, followed by O is a three-keystroke sequence from the computer's view (and, I suspect that NVDA might require a pass through command before each single item in a sequence). This should work, or at least would determine whether or not there's another setting that might need tweaking. -- Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. Outlook.com or Outlook Web Access
Babcock LDPVI
Hello: Can someone point me in the right direction? I am looking for some keyboard shortcuts to use with Outlook.com or Outlook Web Access. To be clear, I am trying to access my emails via my browser. I have looked online and for some reason, with NVDA running, few of the shortcuts work. Is there something obvious that I am doing wrong? I am using Firefox and Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and NVDA version 2016.3. Thanks,

Re: backup software

Hi Richard,

Bearing in mind that a 30 day trial is available, can't I just create a disk image and store it on an external flashdrive within a period of 30 days? Is it necessary for the same program to be present to recover contents from that image, or can the backup extraction be performed via other utilities? I have an unclear understanding of backup software, therefore am unaware of the pertinence of a backup utility such as the one recommended to the extraction of data from that disk image. I would really appreciate some light to be shed in this regard. Thanks.

Good morning, I use a program called image for windows. It is not free although, It works perfectly fine and is nvda friendly. It is a disk imaging utility and backups your entire drive to a single image file, And it is mountable as a usb drive once it is complete. The program costs around thirty nine dollars and when I boght it it came with a three pc licence. They do offer a thirty day trial. Let me know if this helps out. Rich
