Re: can't record my screen reeder and my voice
Laughing Thunder
It depends on what recording software you are using, but try looking for an option like stereo mix in your list of recording devices. It's unlikely that this is an NVDA-specific issue.

Re: question on settings
Laughing Thunder
Hi,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I believe the setting you are looking for is called "Use screen layout (when supported)." It's in the "Browse mode..." dialog in the preferences menu. If you want links to be read on single lines, uncheck this setting, and save your configuration. The browse mode keyboard shortcut to toggle this setting is NVDA+V by default. Hope that helps.

I'd just like to let yall know i'm up with google chrome now.
It seems very very good for the most part. I don't know what the issue was when i tried it before. But, i even set it as my default browser. I still hope edge becomes better because i like to use cortana and if i remember correctly google and cortana don't really work good together, especially when your search engine is not bing.com and the browser edge. Or will the extention chromtana or whatever its called do the same thing? And, again, thanks for the suggestions from yall and thanks again to David for the tutorial. Just fyi, it stays on my computer and no futher.. smile. thanks Scott

Re: Mary TTS in other languages (was: SpeechHub matters - answers to recent questions)
Arno Schuh
Hi,
the Mary TTS in SpeechHub only offers english voices. I know that there are a lot of other languages, i. e. German, for Mary TTS available, too. Is it possible to get these languages in SpeechHub Mary TTS? Is it difficult to add additional languages to Mary TTS or is it possible to do it myself? I have no knowledge in writing software. Yours sincerely Arno

Re: URGENT REQUEST FOR CHANGES/ADDITIONS
Hello, Ah, Microsoft Office support: cut, copy and paste cannot be announced due to technical restrictions and because different languages use different commands for these. For things specific to Excel: there are some things under active development as we speak (that’ll make it to 2016.2 later this year). As for urgency of these requests: when do you need this by? Although we cannot guarantee that all features you’ve requested will be available, we’ll try our best to include highest priority ones as soon as possible. I’ll forward your request to the developers in hopes that some would write to you directly. Cheers, Joseph

Dear Group
I am writing to you on behalf of the Department for Career Development in Worcester South Africa. This department falls under the auspices of the Institute for the Blind (soon to be Kaleidoscope), which is also situated in Worcester.
The Department for Career Development is a unique institution in South Africa in that it is the only college spicifically for blind people. Note that other colleges and universities do allow the blind, but our college aims to rehabilitate those who become blind at a later stage and prepare blind school-leavers for their future career or university.
We teach some theoretical subjects, such as Communication and Marketing Management, but our main focus is on computer literacy and telephony. We also provide a braille course for those who became blind later on or those who only used uncontracted braille in their school career.
Our computers used to run on JAWS, but due to the Windows upgrade and the major cost of JAWS, in "South Africa (due to the weekness of the Rand), we decided to switch over to NVDA.
We have found, besides the advantage of NVDA being free of charge, that it is a more user-friendly programme. Other advantages include the optional spelling error indicator and the ability to read Afrikaans fluently.
As already mentioned, our department trains adult persons becoming blind later in life. Many of them have had no prior computer training, due to their background. Thus it is necessary for purposes of our training, specifically on computer, that the students need to hear NVDA say much more than required by a more advanced, or well adjusted blind person. For this reason there are some changes/additions which are necessary for our line of work. These include the following:
Speak the following by default:
Upon enter: in MS Word, say "ENTER" Upon enter: in MS Excel speak new cell address, Upon pressing escape: say "escape" Upon pressing Ctrl-c: say "Copy to clipboard" Upon pressing Ctrl-x: say "Cut to clipboard" Upon pressing Ctrl-v: say "Pasted from clipboard" Line number by request (similar to insert+period in JAWS) Cell address by request, both in MS Word tables and MS Excel (similar to insert+c in JAWS) Upon pressing Ctrl-t: say "Hanging indent" Upon pressing Ctrl-m: say "Indent" and the distance (alternatively, say only the distance) Upon pressing Ctrl-s: say "Ctrl-S" Upon pressing Ctrl-q: say "Ctrl-Q" Upon pressing Shift-down arrow: say "selected" Upon pressing ctrl-arrow (left or right),When the punctuation level is set to "none or some", read all the punctuation under the cursor Upon pressing Shift-F3: speak capitalisation changes Upon pressing Insert-F: add line spacing to what NVDA already says Upon reading the status line: add line number to what NVDA already says Upon pressing CTRL-G or F5 say go to Upon pressing F8 say extended selection on
Please bare with us, we might request some more additions as time goes on.
Allow me to congratulate the developers of NVDA with a product that, genuinely, makes a difference to the lives of many blind people.
Warm regards

I did not say I was on a laptop, I said I use the laptop keyboard and I do this for all computers regardless if it is a desktop or laptop. Fine, but my observation applies just as much to a desktop mouse (maybe more so) than a laptop mouse pad. You can either tape over the optical port on the bottom or remove the ball from a mechanically based mouse and have a left/right click for "in case of emergency" that won't involve accidental movement of the mouse pointer. You will, though, have to use WinKey+B and left arrow to make sure that you have focus on the AVG system tray icon. Where there's a will, there's a way. Brian

SpeechHub matters - answers to recent questions
Isaac Porat
Hello
The following are answers to recent SpeechHub issues on this list. Firstly, I am using it daily and not aware of any significant problems but there are some things to watch. * Possible Java issues SpeechHub uses Java, therefore like any other Java program, if Java is not installed correctly, it would not work resulting in a Java error message. Firstly Java 7 is not supported any more by Oracle since May 2015. Check if you still have Java 7 installed (look in in add / remove programs or Program and features) If you find Java 7 remove it, if nothing else it can be a security risk. Then check that you have Java 8 and if not download and install it from its website - The Java 8 installer is available now by default. Try to run a Java program and if it does not work read the following: Assuming you have Java 8 installed, the following problem occurs only on some machines and when it does Java does not work with any program! There is a Java 8 installation problem after installing java 8 on a system already running (or used to run) Java 7. Without going into technicalities, the Java 8 installer leaves (it should not) three files which needs to be removed manually for Java to work these are: java.exe, javaw.exe & javaws.exe in the Windows system folder. So, the solution is to check if these files are present in your windows system folder and if so, simply to delete the 3 Java exes, as above. If you are running 32-bit Java on a 64-bit Windows, the exes would be in Windows\SysWOW64, otherwise in Windows\System32. SpeechHub is running as a local server. With some anti virus programs including Microsoft Defender, each time you install another version of Java, it asks you if you would allow it to communicate, say yes if you want to run SpeechHub; actually SpeechHub does not communicate outside your computer at all but still this permission is required even to communicate within your own computer for some reason. If you suspect that Java communication is blocked, check and if necessary change the settings in your anti virus program. * Sometimes after rebooting the computer, NVDA does not remember the last voice used by SpeechHub reverting to eSpeak From version 2015.4 (I think), NVDA uses the 'Ease of access' feature in Windows, which means that NVDA starts together with other access technology programs before other programs. SpeechHub does not use 'Ease of access' yet which means that NVDA might wait for SpeechHub to start and after a while gives up and revert to eSpeak. I find that usually (always in my system, restarting NVDA [Ctrl + Alt + n], which takes a few seconds solves the problem. * Audio ducking SpeechHub uses it own audio system and audio ducking is not supported yet. I did try it with other synthesizer and it least for me I find it irritating and prefer not to use it. I shall look into SpeechHub support for audio ducking at some stage. The above are all the issues I am aware of at present. SpeechHub is here with plenty of information: http://www.speechhub.org Regards Isaac SpeechHub developer Â
