Many are going to hate me for this comment. I start to belive that many of you are running campains for difrerent things. e.g google fanboy...
But in my opinion it's better to be honnest.
I have downloaded crome, and gladly i have noticed some improvement from that previus time i tryed it out. But it's still far from perfect- there are still some behaveur on some websites wich is anoing. I also noticed that the latest Jaws is working better on Crome compare with latest NVDA Snapshot.
So in my opinion NVDA and firefox is stil the best working solutions for us.
Crome is fair accessible but far from perfect.
And then you Google fanboys can say what you want.

It seems very very good for the most part.
I don't know what the issue was when i tried it before.
But, i even set it as my default browser.
I still hope edge becomes better because i like to use cortana and if i remember correctly google and cortana don't really work good together, especially when your search engine is not bing.com and the browser edge.
Or will the extention chromtana or whatever its called do the same thing?
And, again, thanks for the suggestions from  yall and thanks again to David for the tutorial.

Hi,
Web Vism does not even work on the latest versions of Firefox anymore. It
only worked on Firefox before. There is another captsha solving program that
will work on Chrome. It is called Ramola. It will Solve captshas on IE,
Chrome, and Firefox. It is an add on to your browser. In Chrome, just search
for Ramola and you can add it on to Chrome for free. Now, you get five for
free. However, for 99 cents, I believe you can solve 150 captshas or close
to that. So now, everyone is using Ramola to solve Captshas. I hope that
helps, and let me know if you can find Ramola and get it to work. Have a
great one.

Hello there,

But Webvisum doesn't work on Chrome... How do you solve captchas on
sites where there is no audio captcha option, or on those that
supposedly have it, but when you click on it nothing happens?

I hate Rumola... It never worked here, so I would avoid it.

Re: google chrome comment

David Moore

Hi all,
I must clear something up. I do not advocate dumping one browser for another. Actually, I use IE 11, Firefox, and Google Chrome. Each browser is best for certain web sites and also what you use the browser for. For example, I like using the mobile Facebook site on IE 11 better than the other two browsers. However, when I play YouTube videos, I like Chrome much better, because the video never pauses or stops altogether. I use Firefox for my banking site. It is good to have two or three browsers, because a web site may act totally different in one browser than in another. On both of my computers running win10, Chrome loads most web pages at least 20 seconds faster than in Firefox and 30 seconds faster than IE 11. It could be my laptops and set up as well. My advise is to have as many tools at your disposal as possible so you can do as many jobs as you can. Take care, and have a great one.

Yes, if you want to spend an unreasonable amount to solve captchas.  Rumola is much much cheaper and Webvisum can still be used with earlier versions of NVDA.  If you put a portable version of Firefox on your machine that is version 43 or lower, you can still use Webvisum on sites that require captchas to be solved and you can use the current version of Firefox on all other sites.  It may be that for someone who solves many captchas, this might not be as good a solution but for many, it may be a reasonable one.

I keep seeing, David, your claim that Chrome is faster.  How many machines have you compared Fire fox with Chrome?  I doubt that there is any meaningful difference.  I like the Firefox interface more and Firefox has many more popular add ons.  I am very skeptical that dumping firefox is necessarily a good idea and without meaningful comparisons, I shall remain skeptical that there is a meaningful difference in speed.

I have Chrome on my computers because there are sites, now and then, where I get better access with it.  I use Firefox as my main browser.

And as far as streaming is concerned, the browser doesn't stream.  Whatever player is used streams.  I am, again, very skeptical that Chrome is any better at streaming.

try to hit escape, maybe you have landed in to edit field. if this is the case, then when you hit esc, you will hear a tone indicating that brows mode has been switched on. if this hasn't worked for you, try NVDA + space to toggle brows mode on / off.
hope that helps

Instant switchover service: For members on the Freelists forum: if you weren’t able to subscribe to Groups.IO forum (nvda+subscribe@groups.io), please let Nimer and I (Joseph) know by sending an email to nvda+owner@groups.io so one of us can add you directly. This “instant switchover service” will end on March 21, 2016.

Unsubscribing from the Freelists version: If you haven’t done so, now is the time to depart the Freelists group (nvda-request@... with the subject line of “unsubscribe”). If the email method isn’t working, please send a message to nvda+owner@groups.io for assistance. Anyone left by the close of NVDACon 2016 (end of April) will be removed.

List archive freeze on Freelists version: As of this moment our Freelists forum has entered list archive freeze. This means no more new threads will be allowed on the Freelists version (this does not affect Groups.IO forum, so regularly scheduled broadcasts may continue). This is to ensure smooth transfer of list archives to Groups.IO (which could happen anytime); once the archives are integrated, Nimer or I will send an announcement regarding this.

No new members allowed on Freelists forum: In addition to list archive freeze, as part of the list closure plan, no new members will be allowed on the Freelists version nor admins will accept list subscription requests to Freelists version (requests to join the Groups.IO (via direct add) will still be honored until March 21st as part of the instant switchover service).

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please send an email to nvda+owner@groups.io.

Sincerely,

NVDA International Users List moderators

* NVDA is a desktop program (not a WinRT or universal app), thus

name "NonVisual Desktop Access" makes sense.

* NVDA was originally designed to access desktop programs. With the
advent of Windows Runtime (WinRT) and Universal Windows Platform (UWP),
NvDA
developers (including I) are working on enhanced support for new style of
apps.

* Add-on extensions: With the assumption that NVDA will stand for
"NonVisual Desktop Access", the extension of add-ons has been defined as
"nvda-addon". Changing the name of the screen reader will cause confusion
for add-on authors, especially those overseeing community add-ons website
and are charged with reviewing new add-ons (I'm an add-on author and serve
as a reviewer, and I'm the current quarterly add-on release
coordinator/manager, tasked with consulting other add-on authors as to what
should go into seasonal maintenance versions of various add-ons).

Thus, when we do change a screen reader's name, not only it impacts users,
but also its brand image, technical side of things and so on.

Hope this helps.

Clarification: screen reader name change and its impact

Hi all,

Some of you asked why can’t NV Access change the name of NVDA to something else. Here are the reasons why (some of them technical):

·         NVDA is a desktop program (not a WinRT or universal app), thus the name “NonVisual Desktop Access” makes sense.

·         NVDA was originally designed to access desktop programs. With the advent of Windows Runtime (WinRT) and Universal Windows Platform (UWP), NvDA developers (including I) are working on enhanced support for new style of apps.

·         Add-on extensions: With the assumption that NVDA will stand for “NonVisual Desktop Access”, the extension of add-ons has been defined as “nvda-addon”. Changing the name of the screen reader will cause confusion for add-on authors, especially those overseeing community add-ons website and are charged with reviewing new add-ons (I’m an add-on author and serve as a reviewer, and I’m the current quarterly add-on release coordinator/manager, tasked with consulting other add-on authors as to what should go into seasonal maintenance versions of various add-ons).

Thus, when we do change a screen reader’s name, not only it impacts users, but also its brand image, technical side of things and so on.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [win10] Problems with NVDA Remote.

We tried installing NVDA Remote on my friend's computer so I could help her with some possible virus or adware problems, and everything looked like it was going great until we went to actually use it.
Basically, it's just not showing up. She has the latest version of NVDA (we had to update it), the latest version of NVDA Remote, and NVDA says it's installed. But when we look under tools in the NVDA menu, it's just not there. I have it in my tools menu, but not her.
She's running Windows 7 64-bit on a laptop. What the heck is going on here? I'd really like to help her out with some computer stuff in general, and she's not an advanced NVDA user. JAWS Tandum is also out of the question; you need to be on the same JAWS version as the other person, and she's one or two JAWS releases behind me. This totally sucks! Any advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Ari

Hi scott,
I am so glad for you. I have Chrome as my default browser as well, and it is so much faster. The same web site loads up twice as fast, and Chrome is great for streaming. If I can be of more help to any of you, just let me know. Have a great one.

I'd just like to let yall know i'm up with google chrome now.
Just fyi, it stays on my computer and no futher.. smile.
thanks

Scott
