NVDA Plugin Development - Get text highlighted with mouse

I'm not sure if this the correct forum, but I can attempting to get some more details on how to get the currently highlighted text so that it can be announced. If this is the wrong, forum, please can you advise on the forums that NVDA developers look at to get this type of question answered. Basically, I am attempting to create a simple plugin for NVDA, where NVDA is running quietly in the background, but when a specific key-sequence (say NDA+shift+A is pressed) will trigger NVDA to speak the currently highlighted text. I've found out how to switch on and off the speak mode from a plugin, but I cannot find any API documentation on the methods available, and objects returned from the api python module. [Background: I am working with a stroke victim who is having difficulty reading blocks of text. He does not want a full screen reader, he just wants the contents of message bodies read out, and I've spoken to another visually impaired person who would like this type of function.] Other observation: is it likely that I will need to create application specific plugins for different browsers? If so, please can somebody point me to the APIs for Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and IE.

Announcing version 16.12 of ObjPad and Enhanced Touch Gestures

I’m delighted to announce the immediate release of version 16.12 of Object Pad (often shortened to ObjPad) and Enhanced Touch Gestures. The biggest highlight is enhanced ways to navigate the web via browse mode.
Enhanced Touch Gestures (http://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/enhancedTouchGestures.en.html): · Added support for Microsoft Edge, Chrome, PDF’s and other browse mode scenarios (requires NVDA 2016.3 or later installed on a touchscreen computer running Windows 8 and later). · Added lists and landmarks to elements you can navigate via web touch mode.
ObjPad (http://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/objPad.en.html): · Added a fourth mode called “web mode” that allows you to use up or down arrow keys to choose the navigation element and left/right arrows to navigate between elements. · Web mode works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Word, PDF’s and others where browse mode can be used.

One of the biggest issue I have come across are weird keyboards. I encountered one for Guide yesterday, sold by Dolphin, which has no windows key or an alt/control key, and esc is big and just above the cursors, no function keys and no keypad but a weird key that works a bit like a laptop key.

One thing to be aware of, there hasbeen a bug in the second of these checkboxes in Internet Explorer 11 for about a year, where the effect does not change. Apparently this is going to be difficult to fix andfor now they suggest one uses Firefox or just puts up with the fact you cannot cursor through the focus mode item sometimes with some edit field types.

I'm not sure what you might do to solve the problem
other than send the support team a message. If you have problems finding
how to do this, someone on list will very likely help you. I saw an item
when I looked at help that discussed being locked out briefly but it didn't give
any actions to take. It was discussing a temporary lockout and said it
might last for from one minute to 24 hours. It also said there are no
actions you can take. I don't know if you are temporarily locked out or if
you are locked out in a way that requires action of some sort.

Trying another browser might solve the
problem. Or the following might also solve the problem:
Tab to the go button or search button or whatever it's
called after typing your search. I don't know if browse mode will be on or
off at that point. I don't use automatic turning of browse mode off and on
so I don't know. but make sure whether it's off or on. use the
command numpad insert space or insert space. Either one will work.
It's a toggle. Repeat the command if necessary until you hear something
like browse off. or you may hear a sound of some sort. I turn off
the sounds and I don't know what you will hear indicating that browse mode is on
or off. There is a different sound for each. When you are sure its
off, press enter or the space bar on the button. If one doesn't work, try
the other. I don't know what is causing the problem but this is not
typical behavior. You might also try the NVDA bypass command before
activating the button, though that shouldn't make any difference if you have
followed my instructions correctly.

Well I use IE 11. I have no issues with jaws and window eyes in amazon.com When I am in the search box and enter on it to activate it nothing happens. This is an NVDA issue. Again JAWS and Window Eyes works with the page. I can not even enter on the links. I didn't see any way to e-mail this person. My suggestion is to try another browser. I don't know what the problem is but it is not expected and there may be some sort of compatibility problem between the browser and NVDA in this case that isn't generally seen. Also, my question is what command is being used for search and does it work on other sites? We shouldn't assume anything. The message implies that search works on other sites. But this should be verified. So if you don't have another browser installed, my question should be considered first. In other words, is this just a problem on one web site and what command is being used?
