Hi good people: I am unable to get NVDA commands to work. All the
NVDA commands don't wwork, except the arrows, the enter key, and the
tab key. When I press insertplus down arrow, or caps plus down arrow,
to read an entire document, it doesn't work. Just the line I am on is
read, and I still have to keep pressing the down arrow. The
keystrokes for mouse clicks these are either insert plus left arrow or
caps plus left or right arrow also does not work. Inshort all these
commands don't work. So what am I not doing correctly, to get these
keystrokes to work.
Please do kindly help me understand.

From the manual:
Automatic focus mode for focus changes
This option allows focus mode to be invoked if focus changes. For example,
when on a web page, if you press tab and you land on a form, if this option

is checked, focus mode will automatically be invoked.
Automatic focus mode for caret movement
This option, when checked, allows NVDA to enter and leave focus mode when
using arrow keys. For example, if arrowing down a webpage and you land on an

edit box, NVDA will automatically bring you into focus mode. If you arrow
out of the edit box, NVDA will put you back in browse mode.
Audio indication of Focus and Browse modes
If this option is enabled, NVDA will play special sounds when it switches
between browse mode and focus mode, rather than speaking the change.

My comments:
One way to open the browse mode dialog is with the command insert b or
insert b if you are using the desktop layout. You can use either insert.
This command may work in the laptop layout as well, I haven't checked.

In this case, we don't know what behavior you want. It isn't just a
question of turning this behavior on and off. Different options cause
different behavior as the manual excerpt shows.

One of the biggest issue I have come across are weird keyboards. I encountered one for Guide yesterday, sold by Dolphin, which has no windows key or an alt/control key, and esc is big and just above the cursors, no function keys and no keypad but a weird key that works a bit like a laptop key.
Insert is on the right second column in.
Nightmare and no home key markings either.

Re: can't sign in to my gmail account

I'm not sure what you might do to solve the problem other than send the support team a message.  If you have problems finding how to do this, someone on list will very likely help you.  I saw an item when I looked at help that discussed being locked out briefly but it didn't give any actions to take.  It was discussing a temporary lockout and said it might last for from one minute to 24 hours.  It also said there are no actions you can take.  I don't know if you are temporarily locked out or if you are locked out in a way that requires action of some sort.

Trying another browser might solve the problem.  Or the following might also solve the problem:
Tab to the go button or search button or whatever it's called after typing your search.  I don't know if browse mode will be on or off at that point.  I don't use automatic turning of browse mode off and on so I don't know.  but make sure whether it's off or on.  use the command numpad insert space or insert space.  Either one will work.  It's a toggle.  Repeat the command if necessary until you hear something like browse off.  or you may hear a sound of some sort.  I turn off the sounds and I don't know what you will hear indicating that browse mode is on or off.  There is a different sound for each.  When you are sure its off, press enter or the space bar on the button.  If one doesn't work, try the other.  I don't know what is causing the problem but this is not typical behavior.  You might also try the NVDA bypass command before activating the button, though that shouldn't make any difference if you have followed my instructions correctly.

I'm not sure that's true.  I seem to recall that JAWS may have such a setting.  Or I may be wrong and it may be Window-eyes or maybe both.  When someone is alone, they might want to have the actual characters echoed.  Of course, the danger is that someone may use this setting when they don't have privacy  There is another danger as well.  Some malware turns on the computer's microphone, in the case of a laptop and the malware could record and send the password announcement somewhere.  Malware can get the password in all sorts of ways, but I'm not sure I would want a feature that provides another possible method.

Having said that, I don't have much in the way of an opinion about whether a setting should be implemented, but I'm slightly against it at this time.  I would say that if it really matters, open Notepad, type the password, then copy and paste it into the field on the web page.  But typing carefully directly in the field should cause such work arounds to be unnecessary, I should think.

They're not very helpful.

No. It just keeps asking me for the same thing over and over again.

I thought the page that comes up that tells you your account is blocked would have instructions or a link to more information.  I don't recall what happened when my account was blocked awhile ago.  But I unblocked it and I thought it likely that there was information on the page or a linkk that helped me with the problem.

When you try to log in, is there a page with any further information?

Hi, Gene,

I tried doing a google search on how to unlock my account but couldn't find any instructions. Yes, I think I did see where you can create message rules on the server side awhile back.

Does the web page give you instructions about how to unblock the account?  I believe it does.

Also, I believe that if you create message rules on the server, you won't need to create them in Thunderbird.

Hi, everyone,

I can't sign in to my gmail account. I don't know why I'm locked out.
