something I discovered when going through the what's new option

Chris Judd

Hi all,

I was going through the what’s new option for the latest release of NVDA, and I found that all the previous release notes are there all the way back till 0.5.
It is nice to read all the accomplishments that NVDA has made over the years, and since I’m a fairly new user, I’m glad that it is there, so I can take a look, and see what the early versions were like.
Just thought I would share what I discovered.

Re: regression with adobe flash

I think OP wants an answer to their problem. I will try this with Chrome later, and I apologise for hijacking the thread.

OP is having an issue I had previously that was fixed by "Kill Windowless Flash", which was a useful script but no longer seems to be working with current Firefox. NVDA doesn't let you into certain embedded objects if you don't have this script, instead saying "Embedded Object Unavailable." Is there a fix for this that doesn't involve the apparently defunct "Kill Windowless Flash" Greasemonkey script?

Of course, working on why flash is crashing with the browser currently being used could be investigated on a technical list of blind users or on a site like Bleeping Computer.  It would probably be faster and easier to just try Chrome.

I haven't been able to use the Adobe Flash plugin for years now. It
always crashes

if I load a page in Firefox that happens to have Flash content. I've
long since given up trying and am just happy that YouTube has an
alternate player.

If anyone could tell me why my flash player isn't working I'd also be
very grateful.

Which version of Windows 10 are you using?  If you press the windows key to bring up the start menu, type "winver" and press ENTER, it will give you a dialog with the build number.  While Microsoft mostly try and push people onto the latest build, there are various scenarios where that might not be the case - or of course there are two different insider builds - a "fast ring" and a "slow ring".  Particularly for Windows 10 native apps, that version can be important to know when chasing down bugs.

If you would rather e-mail me off list with just the websites, I can investigate - obviously I don't need any of your personal banking details!

Hi all,

NVDA 2016.4rc1 has just been released for testing. This is a release
candidate, which means that unless any critical issues are found, this
will be identical to the final 2016.4 release.

Hi Don,

If the issue is password fields on websites, it could be something weird with the code on that website, but still could be worth reporting as there could be something we could or should do about it.  Bugs are best reported via GitHub here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues

Kind regards

Hi Nasrin,

Happy to help!  Well, where I can.  Now I must admit, I haven't used Linux for a year or so, but my guess would be that if NVDA works in wine, it will likely only work there rather than across the rest of Linux.  You will likely need to use Orca (the main Linux screenreader) for anything else.  I know there is a version of Linux called VInux, which comes with Orca already setup (last I heard it was based on Ubunto 14.something)

Kind regards

Quentin.

I don't know what you are referring to.  I am referring to a different users's problem.  Sharni-Lee Ward said, and her message is quoted farther down in this message as part of the thread, that flash crashes when she runs it in Firefox.  Flash is attempting to run so this is not an access problem.

Hi,

Exactly.

That is why I use Chrome, for those kind of web sites. IE is better for other sites, and even Edge is good with NVDA for sites. I just used the mobile site of facebook in Edge with NvDA 2016.4rc1, and it works better than using FB in IE. Mozilla is still better for web sites that are news sites. Many browsers for many web sites. All web sites are accessible with what I do with all four browsers, and knowing how to use each browser, and knowing how to navigate the web with NVDA and JAWS, if you can use even as a demo.

I'm not sure but this is a very good example of why you should use more than one browser.  If you use Chrome for sites where you want to use Flash, you will probably have no problem.  Flash is built into Chrome so you don't have to install or update it.  It updates itself automatically within Chrome.

hi,

do you have actual proof of this? Since adobe flash, is the same flash used in chrome, I would asume  the same problems exist.  Also, chrome had accessibility issues last I remember.

Re: looking for a good audio splitter that works with nvda

Andrea Sherry

There is a piece of freeware called Total Audio Converter which will do as you want. It is also an extract, joiner, ripper and some more which I can't remember.

If you can't locate just drop me a line and I'll Sendspace it for you.

Cheers from the land of Oz

The problem you are having, Rosemary, has nothing to do with NVDA.  It is an error message from the e-mail program itself.

Whoa! Hold on.
It's better you admit that the Mail app is not working well for you,
rather than spread the news that it's no good with NVDA.
For me, it works extremely well. Good job NV Access.

Hi all,

Yes, the win10 apps assentials is a must add on to use many apps with NvDA.
Rosemarie,

Press enter on the windows store, and press ctrl+E and type mail, and
you can re-install your mail app. Maybe it just needs updated. Go
NVDA, and I will be back for another report.

Hi David.

I love using the Weather app with NVDA! Especially with the Win 10

Essentials add-on installed. I recommend it strongly.

Thank you so much Quenton for posting this great news. I just found

NVDA 2016.4rc1 makes the weather app and the store more accessible.
Also,
the mail app works much better with NvDA. This is so exciting. I will

Hi all,
NVDA 2016.4rc1 has just been released for testing. This is a release
candidate, which means that unless any critical issues are found,
this
will be identical to the final 2016.4 release.

Re: NVDA with touch screens

Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>

Therre is a complete list of gestures NVDA supports in the documentation, but swiping up and down only moves one object forward/backward on the screen, (though you can use a gesture to read all) of the page if you want. Interestingly enough, the nvda-f2 which is the pass through gesture doesn't seem to do anything different with the swipe up/down gestures, so don't know if it doesn't pass them through, or if they just don't do anything else.
