Hello All. Again and again we see on the various blind and

technology that's the focus of those groups. This has caused friction
at times, and has inspired the creation of a new group: BlindLife.

The group description is as follows: "A place for discussing

law, and pretty much anything else with a focus on relation to those
who are blind or vision-impaired. Those who are sighted are welcome,

Well, I submitted a ticket with dropbox just before I posted the original message in this thread yesterday.  Just now they decided to get back to me, and I am really unimpressed - if this had come immediately, I could believe it was automated, but to come nearly 20 hours after I write?  That's deliberate and indicates a complete and utter contempt for their users:

Hi everyone,

For anyone using the Dropbox app on Windows, there is a problem with accessing documents stored in your dropbox folder caused by a new feature in a recent update to Dropbox.

What is happening is that when you open a file from your Dropbox folder, it's popping up a mostly invisible window over the top of the Word / Excel window, and it puts it back there even if you alt+tab away and back. It's called the "Dropbox badge" and you need to go into the Dropbox preferences to get rid of it:

1. Press WINDOWS+B to go to the system tray

2. Press RIGHT ARROW to move to the Dropbox icon (it may also be in the System notification overflow).

3. Press ENTER to open the menu.

4. Press UP ARROW to go to Preferences and press ENTER

5. Press TAB 5 times to get to the "Dropbox Badge" grouping / combo box.

6. Press DOWN ARROW to get to "Never show".

7. Press ENTER to close the dropbox preferences.

Hopefully Dropbox will address this, however in the meantime, following this, documents in your dropbox folder should be accessible again.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Not to alarm you but Maheen is known to have done so in the past,
changing his name, email address, writing style, etc. Perhaps if we
knew the name of the list owner it might offer up a clue as to the
validity of the list let alone the validity of the list owner. Not to
mention it might be Maheen's best buddy with the initials of Marvin...

Re: NVDA 2016.4rc2 Released

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

I'm not quite sure what is going on, but loading in a doc file into Jarte which has tables normally works, justdoesnot show the tables obviously, but in the master and rc branches I seem to loose some text and get some spoken twice. its hard to work out if this is Jarte and something weird in the file or nvda, as I do not have any other version running.
Has anyone else noticed any issues? I know its probably still broken in next from recent tickets but I sense thatis a whole other issue.
It might well be that nvda is in fact now dealing with characters correctly in Word, but makes it a bit odd in Jarte since that is based on xp wordpad code.

Re: Development of a new braille display driver

Hi,

This clears up a lot of confusion…

If you are going to use a proprietary protocol, then right to me offlist so I can connect you to the right guy for this job (it won’t be me, but there is a colleague of mine who is in charge of looking into braille support and he needs tech specs and protocol documentation from you). If you are going to use standard protocols such as Baum, then no need for a driver, as NVDA will support Baum Escape protocol (this protocol supports APH Refreshabraille 18, Humanware’s Braille Connect, Brailiant, Baum Supervario series, Orbit with an update and so on).

For other community members: writing a braille display driver is a hard yet fruitful process. This involves talking to display manufacturers, looking into their protocol documentation, contacting those who are using or plan to use the device, weeks of testing and validation by the community, and continuous maintenance once it makes its appearance as part of a NVDA release. As for my work, I am responsible for investigating NVDA’s support for BrailleNote family – recently, I worked on adding support for scroll wheel on Apex BT and letting QT users use their keyboard for navigation purposes, and I will not upgrade to a BrailleNote Touch until braille display output support from various screen readers is stable.

Cheers,

Joseph

@Joseph - The outlook might be the same as Orbit but inside it is really different. One of the biggest difference is in refresh rate where our device is 3X faster than Orbit. It is based on a completely different technology which can be extended into a 20 cell, 40 cell and even a multi-line display. And we are committed to bringing them to the market.

Hope this answers some of your questions. Also if anyone knows any guy who could help us on the driver front, do let me know.

Thanks,

Shyam

Subject: [nvda] Dropbox problem (with fix)

Quentin.
