Re: Remote question

So you say NVDA+n will not work on the remote computer but could you get into the NVDA menu via the system tray?

Cheers

Re: Command Question

Chris Mullins

The Caps Lock key can also be designated as an additional NVDA key when in Desktop keyboard mode, so it’s association with laptop keyboard mode is not distinct.  It’s good for touch typists as it gives you NVDA control from both sides of the keyboard.

Jacques,

If CAPS LOCK is your NVDA key, this suggests to me that you're using Laptop Keyboard layout.  The command for reading the status line in that case is NVDA Key (CAPS LOCK) plus SHIFT plus END.  Of course, you could have just done a custom substitution of the NVDA key, in which case, ignore the preceding.

Hello

I can confirm that NVDA seems extremely erratic in its attempts to read a status line. Apart from what has already been said, it seems to also make a difference whether object review or screen review is on. Sometimes it works better with object review on, sometimes better when screen review is on. This doesn't make any sense to me. Then, in both Outlook 2010 and 2013 NVDA makes a complete mess of the status line. I really hope this matter can receive some attention.

Kind regards

I haven't encountered the issue you've noted with Word 2016 - I can read the status bar with the Window maximised or windowed.  I'm not sure which version of Word you have though?

Quentin, do you have any further info on what I've described above? I have indeed checked this on a few machines, as well as with other users. It does not appear to be limited to the systems on which I work.

Hi

Is there a list of what solutions the Win10 App Essentials add-on provides?

The reason I ask is that I use the Calculator software that comes with Windows 10 and find it completely accessible without the add-on and much more difficult to use when the add-on is enabled.

Re: Reporting a minor bug between NVDA and Bard Express

OK I don't know of types of controls etc.,but OK let me try and explain, taking as an example searching for a book:

1.-One opens up Bard Express which is a Windows-based program;

2.-Upon going to either Recently-downloaded WishList or other, one lands on a listview in which in ADvanced Mode, arrowing up/down displays the book's info, including its synopsis which in NVDA reads shortened as explained in the original thread.

It'd be great if any of you in the US who used Bard Express, and are part of NVDA's development etc., could look into this issue to hopefully get it resolved. The reading of the entire sinopsis within the listview, withouth having to go into the Book Detail's and tabbing around, really saves time!

Is it a browser based program or does it have it's own interface?
Can you determine what type of control(s) is used to display the book information, i.e is it in a table, text boxes etc. Or just plain text?
As each SR program renders the information differently, I suspect there may be a specific Jaws script for the program, is this the case?
What keystrokes do you use when navigating the book information using NVDA?

HI listers

firstly for those of you guys outside the US., let me explain: Bard Express is a Windows-based program that's used for browsing and downloading Digital books and magazines off the Talking Book Library's BARD system. The bug I'm encountering between NVDA and the Bard Express program is that it only reads part of a book's details from within the list of books. For instance let's take the following book:

In the face of death casilla de verificación seleccionado no marcado
Author: Noll, Peter, Subject: Biography, Annotation: When Peter Noll, a Swiss professor of jurisprudence, learned he had cancer of t, Narrator:
George Backman, Series: , Reading Time: 8 hours, 30 minutes

Now with Jaws, the info within the list reads as follows

no verificado In the face of death
Noll, Peter
Biography
When Peter Noll, a Swiss professor of jurisprudence, learned he had cancer of the bladder, he decided against the radical treatments prescribed by the physicians. From December 28, 1981, until September 30, 1982, he recorded his thoughts and feelings and the progress of the disease. He died on October 9 in his daughter’s arms, leaving this legacy of his own confrontation with, and acceptance of, death.
George Backman

8 hours, 30 minutes
17 de 50

So what needs to be changed in NVDA for this part to be more-compatible with the Bard Express program?

Hello can I get the address to your website?

Hi Quentin.

I just read the first post that was sent to the list. it is good to see the blog part come back, they used to do it along time ago. I enjoyed reading what was happening. A quick question will the podcast side of it come back? I just looked and the last official one was a year ago with some of the community doing them for others to see what was in each release

if the podcast part is not to come back I will redirect the links from the podcast page to the blog that will be coming out from now on.

That will be on my pages that have nvda tutorials on them.

It will be good so more people know about the blog.

gene,
is there any solution to return the status line in to firefox with its

for example: in jaws when a page open completely jaws says doneinternet.
but i press nvda+end to recognize how amount of page is opened and
nvda says blank.
i have this problem using firefox 4 and later.
could you please guide me?
thanks extremely for your help and God bless you.

Just to confirm, I am indeed using the intermediate, or as Brian calls
it, hard end, key in combination with caps lock, the latter which is
enabled as a NVDA key on my systems. As said, I find status line
reporting to work fine in most cases, except for those previously
mentioned.

Thanks.

Quentin,

Not that what you offered did not bear repeating, but I was
only offering what I did because some other screen readers use some or
all of the soft keys such as soft End just like they do the hard End
key. Yesterday I was playing with a lot of windows shortcuts for
selecting text and using the soft Home, End, Pg Up, and Pg Dn keys and
just now realized that I could not do that were NVDA to be active at the
time - I have to remember when NVDA is active that I need to use their
hard equivalents which are just above the number pad, in the same row as
the standard function keys, and of a thinner profile than the number pad
keys. Since I almost never use the number pad for anything other than
numeric input, except when I'm working with a screen reader, I'm
accustomed to avoiding the soft versions for the most part.

It's possible, but admittedly not likely, that someone in the
habit of using the soft and hard End keys interchangeably could believe
that there's a problem/bug with NVDA in this instance when that is not
true, and for precisely the reason you mentioned.
