Hi, when using NVDA if you tab to your folders NVDA doesn't say NVDA 5
unread messages is there any way to get it to automatically speak this
info??

Re: accessible email clients with NVDA

What has this to do with nvda?
As far as I know that software you mention is mega messy access wise. I tried it some time ago and the folk making it seemed not to be interested in its issues with screenreaders.

I managed to add my email account with JAWS and OE classic and noticed that OE classic does not have automatic IMAP support. I disabled POP on my gmail anyway, but OE classic, the most recent one, kept trying to connect to the POP server, so, basically, if anyone is using OE classic and the jaws scripts for it you may need to put IMAP information in later unless I am a ditsy and I am missing something obvious. :)

Re: accessible email clients with NVDA

Brian's Mail list account

I just don't like Live mail, its too messy and keeps on losing its mail.
OE is still pretty good. Its probably more secure than one might think in most circumstances. I'd not run a company with it, and Outlook of course is only available as part of Office and microsoft cannot leave it alone. Its far too bloated and tries to do things most just do not need.

As do the millions of other users. It's one of the more popular email clients out there, and accessible, too.

Outlook, at least up through the 2013 version, is also accessible as is Windows Live Mail 2012, but official support just terminated for the latter. WLM 2012 should be just fine for a while for POP and IMAP e-mail access methods. It will certainly hit the tech press when it begins it's transition to "a block of security Swiss cheese" that Outlook Express became long ago.

I'm sure
it is, my main criticism of it is that it does not do what I want in the way I want to do it. I still like identities. OK so there are local security issues but nevertheless Outlook Express fits my needs and long may its app module stay in nvda.

Its not really hacked, but anyway, I've had few problems with Outlook express on windows 7. The issues that have always been in it are still there of course, but then many pieces of software have bugs that can be worked around.

I haven't used the hacked version of Outlook Express. All I can tell you is that, based on discussions where people have written about problems they have had is that the hacked version works well for some people and not for others. It isn't stability problems, it's problems of parts of the program not working properly even after repeated attempts to correct the problems. You won't know if the program works well for you unless you try it and try to correct the problems.

I don't use Thunderbird. I tried it very briefly many years ago while preparing a presentation on the basics of its use. I haven't heard complaints about stability and I therefore assume that it generally works well in terms of stability for those who use it.

Re: there are people who want also outlook express.

Brian's Mail list account

Its not a crack as such. All it is is a bundle of display routines etc, to trick a copy of Outlook express into thinking its still on xp when its on 7 or 10. It works fine There are some issues though that also affected it before, namely if you use the preview pane, it can loose its messages and need to be restarted. Just like in xp. this was an nvda hooking in bug and still is one supposes. It would be wrong to alter the program, probably illegal as well, as it is not public domain though it is so ubiquitous I doubt anyone who has had a computer for a few years does not have it.
I use it and am happy to donate the money to get the latest versions of the trick routines.
Its nothing that has not been done before and as OE was always given for free, nobody gets hurt.
I fear I have to give this warning though. It was originally designed for windows 7, and although it will work on 10, when a new build of windows installs it will be broken as Microsoft sees it as an old bit of left over software and bungs it in the old system folders it keeps for a bit when you do the update, so you need to make sure you have all things backed up before you let Windows 10 use its creators update or whatever its going to be called.

Unfortunately, having looked at the email client on 10, its all a bit basic and live mail is still bug ridden, Tbird needs a whole lot of learning for its shortcut keys, so people who want to use a client I think are badly served by the current bunch of software. All too many assume email is now only used on smart phones or online interfaces which is not my experience.
Brian.
PS you get three keys with your donation. So don't hack it to leave the person who has obviously put a lot of work into this without a small amount of money, and it is small and he is also very helpful.

Re: espeak

Wagner Soares Da Silva

Hello, I received the content below the Espeak NG list.

Hi all,

I have released eSpeak NG 1.49.1, which is available at https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng/releases/tag/1.49.1.

What's New:

* Vim syntax support for rule files.
* Replace ieee80.c with the implementation at http://www.realitypixels.com/turk/opensource/ToFromIEEE.c.txt ( http://www.realitypixels.com/turk/opensource/ToFromIEEE.c.txt ) for Debian open source license

compliance.
* Documentation updates.
* Emscripten support.
* Merged the Android port into the main espeak-ng codebase.
* Extend --compile-phoneme to support specifying the source directory for phoneme files.
* Support using any directory as the data home, not just espeak-ng-data .
* Don't install the default voice: use en as the default voice.

*NOTE:* The merger of the Android code is currently experimental. It is
missing support for recognising Unicode characters.

bug fixes:

* Fix .Lnn rule groups to allow groups above 62.
* Fix reporting the eSpeak NG version in the --version string and Windows installer.
* Fix a crash when calling LoadDictionary when using clang.
* Threading fixes and Mac OSX portability for the fifo and event code.
* Fixes for running the spect code on big-endian architectures.
* Fix determining the voice directory when installing the 32-bit Windows binaries on a 64-bit Windows system.
* Fix a regression with the saved parameter logic.
* Reduce the default buffer length to 60mS to improve latency.
* Don't override buffer length when using espeak-ng for audio.
* Fix detecting doubled consonants when using Unicode characters.
* Fix speaking 1,,2 , etc. in languages that use , as a decimal separator.

updated languages:

* af (Afrikaans) -- Christo de Klerk
* en (English) -- Valdis Vitolins
* fa (Farsi/Persian) -- Shadyar Khodayari
* it (Italian) -- chrislm
* ky (Krygyz) -- JRMeyer
* lv (Latvian) -- Valdis Vitolins
* tr (Turkish) -- Valdis Vitolins

new languages:

* ar (Arabic) -- Taha Zerrouki
* jp (Japanese) -- Reece Dunn (NOTE: Hiragana and Karakana only.)

Kind regards,
Reece

Hi all.
I am curious to know if this is a bug.
I hope so, it is frustrating.

I'm using esEpak ng with nvda and windows 10.
I'm also using an asus laptop.
When I start reading in any way, usually, the first part of the letter will
be uninteligable to me, and sometime even the whole word.
For example, when I press home to go to the top of this message to proof
read it, instead of hi I heard i.
I checked audio ducking and it is totally turned off.
As you can imagine, this is also very frustrating when typing too even with
key echo turned on.
Could someone look into it?
If so, thank you so so very much.

Have a nice day.

Use read status line.  You don't have to be in the folders list.  You can be in the message list as I recall.  I haven't used Outlook Express for many years but as I recall, you will hear how many messages are in the list and how many are read and unread.  But if my memory is not quite correct, you will still hear what you want, that is the number of unread messages.  Read status line in NVDA is NVDA key end.  That is for the desktop layout.  I don't know the laptop layout command.

Hi all.
I am curious to know if this is a bug.
I hope so, it is frustrating.

I'm using esEpak ng with nvda and windows 10.
I'm also using an asus laptop.
When I start reading in any way, usually, the first part of the letter will be uninteligable to me, and sometime even the whole word.
For example, when I press home to go to the top of this message to proof read it, instead of hi I heard i.
I checked audio ducking and it is totally turned off.
As you can imagine, this is also very frustrating when typing too even with key echo turned on.
Could someone look into it?
If so, thank you so so very much.

Have a nice day.

Scott

Not all features are there, including controlling NVDA via speech (that's for Dragon for now).

Hi,
Yep, this suggests Dragon might have been installed somewhere other than paths assumed by the add-on.

'C:\\Program Files (x86)'
>>> os.environ["programw6432"]
'C:\\Program Files'

Hi,
One more: Can you do the following for me:
1. Open NVDA Python Console (Control+NVDA+Z).
2. Type the following as exactly as shown (press ENTER after each line):
os.environ["programfiles"]
os.environ["programw6432"]
Reply to me with whatever you get from these commands. Perhaps Dragon was installed somewhere other than default program files path.

Joseph
